Our world had made it through major lanslides, floods, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, thunder storms, blizzards, fires, mini twisters, and lot's more, too! And to think some people are just dumb enough to believe things like this ....

I don't believe in 2012, people are just trying to scare people. No human on this earth, no matter how powerful their tools may be, can't predict when and how this world will end. Neither did our computers fail in 2000.

I know we aren't supposed to cite religion, but those who are believers of it, the bible refers to all the events supposed to happen before the world ends. And it says something about the moon being a blood red color the last night of Earth?

Well... to put that scientifically... I'd say that that's when the Sun turns into a red giant. It's going to expand up 'till Jupiter and burn every planet before that to a crisp. And since the moon's light is a reflection of the sun's... it'll be red.

Or at least that's my take. I never believed in 2012 to begin with. And besides that, there's news or rumors or whatever that the Mayan calender's second half (the reason people started 2012 stories in the first place) has been found.

Seriously, though. All this "The end is coming in 2012!" is laughable. Wasn't the world supposed to end or something in 2000?

I don't know if I would call 1999 the end of the world. It was more of fear that the computers wouldn't recognize the the new year, and that all the computers in the world would crash. But that never happened, were all alive and well.

Actually, where they got "the moon being a blood red" is from lunar eclipses. When a lunar eclipse happens the shadow of the earth makes the moon look red. And because back then there was no understanding of science and all that they thought it was a sign of the end of the world, when all it was was the earth's shadow being cast on the moon making it look red.

From what I've heard, it wasn't the end of the world that was foretold, it was the collapse of the Mayan system of government. Which would be a monarchy.

At least this topic hasn't turned into a flame war.

This is the exact reason that made the movie 2012 so laughable. Not that it was a bad movie. I loved it, actually, but you can also laugh at it because it's not going to happen. I liked the beginning with the crazy radio guy. Charlie was it? XD

In my english class my teacher told us, if it is true, It wouldn't be the end, it be a "new era."

The argument for 2012 being real is that the 5,125 old Mesoamerican Long Count calendar will expire...

Which really begs the question...

The Sun is not gonna get that big when it becomes a red giant. It'll only expand out to about the current orbit of the Earth. But that won't happen for about 5-7 billion years. So I wouldn't wait up for it.

I'm tellin' ya, everything is currently A okay with the earth right now, but what are those calenders? Could I get some more information on them, please?

I don't know much about them, but the Mayan people made calendars. Their calendar ended in 2012, so many believe that's when the world will end.
