Illumination Entertainment, which is a subsidiary production company of Universal Studios, which brought us the Despicable Me movies and Minions (as well as Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and Hop) is not a company to rest on its laurels, because they have yet another CGI animated movie in production, set to debut in the summer of 2016--The Secret Life Of Pets! Here's the official teaser trailer:
This movie looks pretty funny already, and clearly there is more of a storyline to it than just random day-to-day activities of the pets, which is what is seen in the teaser trailer. I especially get a kick out of Chloe the cat, and Leonard the standard poodle. lol There is an official website up for the movie, but nothing has been placed on it to date except the words "It Works!". So I guess we'll have to wait a bit on that.
If the box office successes with each of their previous movies, and those, to date, with Minions, are any indications of where this latest one can and will go, then we needn't be too worried! While I didn't think Hop was all that great, and while there were a few corny aspects to Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (though overall I thought it was a fantastic movie, and a great tribute, mostly, to Dr. Seuss' legacy), I think the Despicable Me movies are hilarious, and I anticipate the same from Minions when I go to see it...which should be soon.
If you go to the Wikipedia page for Illumination Entertainment, you'll find that they have a steady stream of once-a-year CGI animated theatrical projects. For 2017, there is a third Despicable Me movie planned. Though, for release just prior to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday (actually slated for November 17th, 2017) is a CGI animated version of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Let's just hope THAT one is less like Ron Howard's ridiculous live-action film from 2000, and far more like Chuck Jones' 1966 animated film (which he collaborated with Theodore Geisel, the famous Dr. Seuss himself, in making).
So keep your fingers crossed for this new Illumination project!
I can't wait for this to come out! My sister thought I was crazy when
I told her about the movie until she saw an ad for it while I was
waiting for a video to load. Eek! Finally another movie about pets
that actually looks good!
"Are you mad? You don't know the power of styrofoam".
This looks like a cute film, and one I can imagine myself getting a
kick out of (especially since I have a cat)! I'm definitely going to
check this movie out when it comes out.
