The Evil Minions
--by JerseyCaptain--
With the release of Despicable Me 2 back in 2013, we fans were introduced to a whole new and daring type of character--the purple minion. And it all seemed so exciting, this new and hilarious twist on the yellow minions from Despicable Me! Of course, before any fan actually saw the movie, he or she probably presumed these were brand-new creatures that may have been off-shoots of those traditional yellow minions. Boy, were we ever wrong!
As the story develops, we learn that the purple minions are the latest victims of physical and mental manipulation, via injections of the dangerous mutagenic serum known as "PX-41". Silas Ramsbottom, the director of the Anti-Villian League, indicates that, "in the wrong hands, the PX-41 serum could be the most devastating weapon on Earth!" The serum has the capability of transmuting any living thing into an aggressive and practically indestructible monster, as Gru learns when he is shown disturbing footage of tests of the serum on a rabbit. The transformed rabbit growls, turns and attacks the laboratory technician, and then turns on the camera, destroying it.
It turns out that the supervillian El Macho has stolen a large quantity of it and, with the help of
Gru's henchman scientist and inventor, Dr. Nefario (who leaves Gru's employ so that he can maintain his evil activities), secretly steals Gru's gentler yellow minions bit by bit, until he has captured almost all of them. Using the PX-41, he transforms each of them into the meaner, nastier purple minions, which El Macho himself describes as "indestructible, mindless killing machines". To back up that statement, he reveals Gru's minion Kevin, transformed and secured to a chair that rises out of the floor deep within his secret lair. And then evil Kevin is exposed to several weapons and threats, which all fail miserably against him. He even swallows a large bomb and suffers no harm from it...and he eats a police car which has just been dropped on him.

In the end, of course, Dr. Nefario repents his betrayal of Gru, and returns to work for him, having first come up with an antidote to the PX-41 serum's effects. With the help of the few remaining yellow minions, as well as Margo, Edith and Agnes, he shows up in the nick of time to rescue Gru (and minions Dave and Stuart), who have been attempting to rescue AVL agent Lucy Wilde from El Macho's clutches. Making use of the jelly which Gru had him designing over the past months, which turned out to be no good for consumption (or nearly anything else), Dr. Nefario infused it with the PX-41 antidote and then, using gas-powered weapons (hand-held as well as aircraft mounted), they are able to transform the purple minions back to their former yellow selves en masse!
Description
The evil minions are rather more dimwitted than the normal yellow minions who work for Gru. They also have an underslung jaw with a heavy underbite, over-sized fangs, massive unkempt hair (and a generally hairier body), scraggly chin hair, and oversized, gangly arms. They cannot communicate in the normal minion language, though they appear to understand it. Their most frequent utterance is a short, abrasive and intimidating "BAAH!". They constantly twitch and shudder, and mumble and grunt. They are also practically invulnerable to harm (even from themselves). They can be shot by gunfire, exploded by bombs, have massive heavy items dropped on them, flames hurled at them, and still more, and yet bounce right back with no ill effects. They can also eat anything, regardless of its composition...even explosives. Their only motivation seems to be that of wreaking havoc.
