The Fox & the Hound 2 is considered a mid-quel to The Fox & the Hound because it takes place when they were in their younger years, still friends, not before, not after the first film. It was made more than 20 years after the first film, and considered one of Disney's better sequels, though certainly not the best.

During the course of the movie, a group of dogs named the 'Singing Strays' take a big influence on the friendship of Tod and Copper, and they become a problem at a certain point. Their own group splits apart at about the same time as Tod and Copper's friendship seems to be running on thin ice.

Though, everything works out in the end. Most of the original characters from the first film are featured in this movie such as Amos Slade, Widow Tweed, Tod, Copper, and Cheif, though the animation is of course of a different style due to the change in years as well as the voices due to the same reasons.
