Valka is a character introduced in HTTYD 2 but often mentioned in some series' episodes, in the first movie and in the short "Gift of the Night Fury" (although she was never named, until now). She is Hiccup's mother and Stoick's wife.

Thought dead by both husband, son and by the whole village of Berk, Valka was shown to be kidnapped by a Stormcutter dragon during an attack in her house. The dragon approached a baby Hiccup and she rushed in to protect him, however she could not kill the dragon and the beast and her made a connection that broke once that Stoick arrived to save wife and son. Valka was brought by the Stormcutter (later known as Cluodjumper) in a dragon valley full of dragons and where lived a giant wite dragon, a Bewilderbeast, an alpha of the dragons in that place. Valka decided to stay there, since nobody was fond of her in the village because of her ideas about dragons being not horrible creatures, she thought that Stoick and Hiccup would be better without her, like the whole village. During her stay in the valley, she learnt a lot about dragons.

One day, after 20 years, she met again with her son, Hiccup. She apologizes for disappearing and teaches him what she knows about dragons. Her reuinion with Stoick was very sweet and is shown that she still deeply loves him although she may still be diffident about humans, after 20 years spent only with the company of dragons. She helps her family during the attack of Drago and, in the end, she stays in Berk.
