News Regarding Drama

Written by Skulblaka_Shur'tugal :

This is a message from the mods.

Recently,  there has been a lot of flaiming of members in the shout boxes, through comments, and on the forums. In particular, the members are Brown wolf, MightyBalto1925, Skulblaka_Shur'tugal, Kelsey the Zombie and JerseyCaptain. As of right now, anyone caught doing this again will be given an instant month-long ban. Consider it a rule for now.

To elaborate: don't talk about them even if you talk about the situation without mentioning names. It's obvious who you talk about. And we also don't care if you talk about it either civilized or politely. With Brown wolf, who was recently demodded, DO NOT talk about the situation in public, no matter what side you take. It is not necessary to talk about it, and it creates drama. As for flaming Skul, JC, Kelsey, or Mighty--no matter the reason--just flat-out don't try it. That includes those same people; if you see THEM starting anything, report it and the mods will decide how to handle it.

This isn't to say you aren't allowed to talk about it. Just don't do it on the shoutboxes, in comments, or on the forums. Animation Source is a fansite dedicated to films, NOT bashing other members. You can easily talk with others about these situations through PMs, Skype, or MSN. ANYWHERE but in public on this website.

Once again, no exceptions, not even those listed. If anyone discusses the current situation about Brown wolf, or writes messages that could be interpreted as flaming JC, Mighty, Skul, or Kelsey, you will receive a one-month-long ban. And again, that INCLUDES those listed; if they are caught doing so, they will be banned. No exceptions, no second chances, so don't even bother.

This is a message from Skul, to help this news not end so dreary-like.

Live long and prosper.

The question I asked is this one: "From my experience if you report a mod's bad behavior to the mods, the complaint gets deleted and nothing happens. Has something significant changed?" I understand now that the bad mods seem to be de-modded and that's good, but the question still stands specifically because it was such a blatant abuse of power that none of the mods, including you, seemed to be interested in handling at the time. Has that changed? Can we actually report mods now without having those reports systematically deleted and ignored?

It doesn't mean I want to report any mods by the way, I'm asking solely because it has already been a very serious issue here, and it would be nice to see some confirmation that mods are actually taking their jobs seriously. Now, as to this part: "This news is specifically about those people because in recent weeks if not months, they have been the subject of much flaming and it had to stop."

Are those people being flamed for absolutely no reason? Or are they doing things to provoke it? I certainly hope you're putting more effort into finding the root cause of this particular problem than just telling people to stop flaming them, because given who those people are, it's doubtful that this flaming is just happening spontaneously and without cause. Right? Who's really at fault when it's always the same people being flamed?

Do your part to make the site better and it won't be necessary for anybody to flame or complain. Continue to ignore the source of the issues that people are having, and you will continue to have to threaten the users of this site like a king trying to intimidate his subjects into silence from his balcony. It's up to you.

I believe it HAS been answered. If those people aren't mods, there's no reason to worry about it. This news is specifically about those people because in recent weeks if not months, they have been the subject of much flaming and it had to stop.

Skul - I was asking a question, not making an assumption. And it still hasn't been answered, by the way. Spend less time being snippy and more time reading what I said. When you read what I said again and understand what I was asking, I would still like an answer. And as UK said, bringing it up to the mod doesn't work. I wouldn't have brought the issue up if that worked, since that's the obvious solution, but it's been tried many dozens of times and it doesn't work.

I am glad to hear the JC/Mighty clique aren't mods any more though, that's better for everybody here.

I think, bringing it up with a mod, could work. It just needs to be put into practice.

ArcticGx- Nah, I didn't take it the wrong way, I'm not gonna flip out over it, but it does annoy me that people seem to just target each other for personal reasons, when we're supposed to be a community, but as you said, people definitely don't take a care sometimes about what they post to other users, and some people are pretty just down right hypocritical.

Unfortunately, I think the whole point of AS has been forgotten.

And who it applies to.
Several people have been bringing it up constantly, one in the shoutbox virtually every day (not going to name and shame though) but thus far the most that's been done has been the mods going in circles not knowing what to do or who to take action against.

Seriously, some people just can't let sleeping dogs lie and keep dragging crap up left, right and centre. Frankly sick of seeing it, as are a lot of people judging by the comments on this news post.

Edit: Also note that "Bringing it up with the mod" doesn't work. If a mod is actually doing something wrong and you mention it you get, mostly, a "Don't like it then ignore it" response and often get yelled at by their friends too. (And I have seen people being attacked in the shoutbox over mentioning something negative about a mod's actions before).

Does this apply for forums too? You mods should check it out.

In truth, if you have a problem with a mod, don't complain to the webmaster. Find a way to resolve it with the mod you're having problems with first.

What Batman said. You should really check staff pages before making assumptions.

They are no longer mods. They haven't been for over a year.
