In 2004, a Frenchman named Steet created a website based on one of his favorite animated films. He called it Balto Source, releasing the site both in French and English. A few months later, he created a sister site, Lion King Source. Within months, both sites grew in popularity and gained hundreds of members. In 2009, Steet created a single site to house both of them, calling it Animation Source. That same year, he released TaleSpin Source and The Princess and the Frog Source, to help promote both old and new animation. Since then, several Sources have come out, each with the purpose of providing fans with ways to express their delight with animation.

Animation Source is devoted to providing fans of animation and animated films/TV series with the latest news, information, and opportunities for discussion. Over the years it has gained over 20,000 members. It has been involved in interviews with people within the animation business, and has strived to maintain quality information on animated films.
