The Lion King in stereoscopic 3D

It has just been announced that Disney is working on a 3D version of The Lion King, from one of the workers behind the project (Don Hahn)

This isn't a CGI version (phew! thank you my lord) but of course a stereoscopic version of the same Lion King film we already know, adding depth to the picture.

This follows the 3D conversion of Beauty & The Beast getting the same treatment, which was originally planned for 2010 but has been pushed to next year. All the people who have watched some screenings of the 3D version of B&TB said that it was "amazing", maybe even better than the 3D in CGI films. I'm sure looking forward that, because I really wasn't amazed by the 3D of Avatar. (very blurry)

Of course, the real big good news behind that is that...it means there's a very high probability that The Lion King will return to theaters! There's no official date, but I would estimate this to be released either in 2011 or 2012.

Will they re-release all their classic animated films the same way? That will probably depends on how many people go to see them, but I must say that I'm all for it, especially now that Disney has more or less stopped producing new 2D feature films. And if it's a very, very big success, you can bet other companies will do the same.

Don Hahn is a also involved in the upcoming sequel to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", on which he said "if you’re a fan, pretty soon you’re going to be very, very, very happy."

Well, my opinion is that very good news that make the Lion King 1 in 3D and premier in teathers in 2011 or 2012, open to new tecnologies, well, I prefer the animation 2D but the 3D not bad, especially that good realized, for example, Alpha and Omega that be good realized.

I don't like CGI, not 3D/depth (that's TWO different things!!!)

And no I don't see any major improvement since the first Toy Story. The humans in TS3 still look almost as bad as they were in the first, and the toys look exactly the same. (even if I'm sure the models themselves have evolved meanwhile)
That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Snow White looks as magnificent as the recent 2D productions.

I saw Toy Story 3 in both 3D and 2D. I would prefer the 3D, to be honest, because it adds depth to the film. I'm looking forward to seeing The Lion King in 3D, when it comes out.
