A Plethora of Animation News | Tweet |
Well, enough news has racked up in the past week or two for a news post, so here it is. Hopefully you'll enjoy this. If you get too bored, there's always watching paint dry or something....
First of all, the upcoming 2015 film Peanuts has had its first teaser trailer revealed, as you can see below.
It looks like the animation studio is doing their best to convert the famous Charlie Brown and Snoopy characters into CG, while at the same time keeping true to artist Charles Schulz's original designs. We haven't seen this kind of animation in a long time, so it'll be a fun change from the generic designs we're used to seeing nowadays. (A fun tidbit: Snoopy's voice is from archival recordings of his original voice actor, much like Walt Disney's voice was used for the Get a Horse! short this past year.) The film opens up worldwide in November, 2015.
Frozen was released on DVD and Blu-Ray this past Tuesday, and set yet another new record: in its first 24 hours of release, it sold a total of 3.2 million DVDs. (This doesn't count digital downloads, which were available as early as two weeks ago.) That's the most ever for a family film. On a similar note, Frozen just passed Yoda and dinosaurs at the box office to become the 13th highest-grossing film ever. It has now been in the Top 10 at the US box office for 17 straight weeks. That's a very long time - even longer than Avatar, the highest-grossing film ever. Since it's now on DVD, that should finally end this coming weekend, but it had a strong, $10 million opening in Japan, so there are still many other films to leave in its dust.
And while a sequel has not been greenlit (nor even officially talked about), directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee have recently discussed the A-list actors they would like to see in a sequel, should one arrive. The biggest names they mentioned were Matthew McConaughey (who won the Oscar for Best Actor this year, for Dallas Buyers Club), and Benedict Cumberbatch (arguably one of the best-known actors right now). They have both, in the past, publically expressed their enjoyment at watching Frozen, so it's not far-out there to see them in a potential sequel.

But as has already been stated, no sequel is being planned as of right now. (A Broadway play, on par with The Lion King, is.) Disney Animation Studio's future films include: Big Hero 6 (based on the Marvel superheroes), Zootopia, Giants (a Jack and the Beanstalk story), and Moana. Big Hero 6 comes out this November, Zootopia next year, Giants in 2016, and Moana in 2018. Keep in mind, the farther out the film, the more likely it is that the release date will change, or even that it could be shelved. So these are tentative.
What animated film are you most looking forward to? Do you want to see a Frozen 2? Write your comments below!

Love Peanuts! Grew up with them, and LOVE Snoopy! He's so cute! Great
news! Yeah, I agree on the Frozen 2 stuff. First one was enough. Its
like Balto. The first movie will always be better than the sequels. |

Honestly, I don't really want to see a Frozen 2. I think it would just
ruin the plot, and the first movie wouldn't be the same. Like if they
added Kristanna wedding, and thier kids, the movie would be what you'd
expect it to be. But on other notes, I'm really looking forward to the Peanuts film, I grew up with them, so I've got high expetations for them... :] hehe. Anyway, thanks for the update! |
