Academy Awards Update

This isn't strictly related to animation, but it will affect Frozen's Oscar potential in a big way, so please bear with me.

The

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (which hosts the Academy Awards, aka The Oscars), has announced that they are revoking a nomination in the Best Original Song category: "Alone Yet Not Alone" from the film of the same name. In essence, the song is no longer nominated in this category, and no replacement will be decided. The reason for this is because the song's composer, a former Academy governer, violated promotional terms for the nomination--and yes, this is punishable by a nomination revoke.

In other words, "Let It Go" from Frozen just got that much more of a push to win. Though it was unlikely "Alone Yet Not Alone" would win anyway, now there is one less competition for Frozen's much-loved song to snag Disney's first Original Song win since 1999. (The other three nominees are "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, "The Moon Song" from Her, and "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.)

Most analysts are now sure that "Let It Go" will win, but we have to wait just over a month (March 2) to be absolutely sure (along with Frozen's second Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film). In the meantime, enjoy this video of the song, sung in 25 different languages!

"Happy" and "Let it go" will be very close, both great songs, so hard to pick.
