And the Oscars Go To...

Written by SkulShurtugalTCG :

Well, what did you expect? Frozen won two Oscars tonight: Best Animated Film and Best Song, "Let It Go." This marks the first time Disney has won an award in the Best Animated Film category, the first time it has won an Oscar since 1999's Tarzan (which also won Best Song), and the first time it has won two awards in the same year since 1995's Pocahontas.

Direcotrs Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and producer Peter Del Vecho accept the award for Best Animated Film.

The wins in both categories were no real surprise, but still, it had some heavy competition. The wins are a huge mark for Disney, which has struggled to keep its place as a frontrunner in the animation industry since Pixar films began to come out. Now, for the first time in forever, it is back, and people are craving for more. Combined with its $1 billion-plus gross, Frozen is a large indication that Disney films are coming back for another Golden Age.

On the flip side, there was only one major surprise of the night. (Even the presenter was surprised.) The winner of Best Animated Short Film did NOT go to Get a Horse!, as many expected. Instead, it went to French film Mr. Hublot. In a year when most categories were predictable (or at the very least, able to be narrowed down to two films), this one category was a real shock. Still, while Disney did not sweep the Oscars tonight, they have proven themselves with Frozen. Their next film, Big Hero 6, is due out this November.

Remember, Frozen is still in theaters worldwide, and is now available for digital download. It will come out on DVD and Blu-ray later this month, so if you need one more reason to go and see it, hopefully this is it. All these factors combined are strong indications that not only is this a great animated film, it's a great film, period.

Balto-->Hard to believe or not, it's true. The Best Animated Film category was created in 2001, and since then, Pixar has won most of the awards. The rest have gone almost entirely to DreamWorks.

The breakdown (if you're interested):
2001: Shrek
2002: Spirited Away
2003: Finding Nemo
2004: The Incredibles
2005: Wallace & Grommit: Curse of the Wererabbit
2006: Happy Feet
2007: Ratatouille
2008: WALL-E
2009: Up
2010: Toy Story 3
2011: Rango
2012: Brave
2013: Frozen

"This marks the first time Disney has won an award in the Best Animated Film category"

I find that hard to believe.
And if it's true, then it's kind of sad that Frozen was the first/only film to be able to do it.

Zilch has a point. There's plenty of other animated films being released this year so lets start looking at some other animated movies for once. All this news about Frozen is starting to get both annoying and boring.

Zilch took the words right out of my mouth, to be honest.

I'll never be your beast of burden.
Well good for them, then. Not trying to be negative, but it'd be wonderful to see news that isn't just about Frozen, seeing as the past few months has been predominantly featuring this movie. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying that it'd be more than nice to see something else other than what is going on in the world of Frozen.

It was definitely a close choice for Animated Film - I had heard of all but one of the nominated films [and only seen Frozen, so I may be biased... XD], and I was elated that Frozen won. The Animated Short loss for "Get a Horse!" surprised me, but it's won a plethora of other awards prior to the Oscars, so that's okay.

Overall, I was impressed with Disney's wins. Hopefully the future releases for all future-length animation will be as good or better than what we've seen in animation already!

Already heard of this this morning before heading to work and I must admit that I'm sad that Frozen won the awards as I heard that most people that voted hadn't even SEEN the movies, that was a real shame. (I'm also no fan of Frozen but as that isn't my issue, the issue is with the voters)

Eh, not surprised in the least bit. Frozen was decent but the hype about it is just really overrated.
I knew a few others that deserved it much more than what Disney threw together for a movie.
