End-of-the-Summer News

Written by SkulShurtugalTCG :

For most of you animation fans, summer ends in just a few weeks--maybe even days if you're going off to college like me. I feel like Andy in Toy Story 3, complete with my vintage Toy Story action figures. But enough about that. Time for the stuff you're all wanting to read. (By the way, thank you steet for making "Lady and the Tramp Source". It's one of my favorite films of all time.)

First off, I want to inform you with something that might come as a shock, at least if you were looking forward to this as much as I did. It would appear that Beauty and the Beast's 3D re-release in theaters has been postponed indefinitely.

 Beauty and the Beast

The official explanation for this is so that families can get used to the home-theater 3D format that many manufacturers are pushing for. Personally, I'm of the opinion this is because the transition of the film from 2D to 3D is behind schedule, which is not surprising considering how time-consuming the process is. The release of the film has been pushed from February 2011 to sometime in 2012--or even beyond. In the meantime, there's the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the film that we can watch.

On another note, Toy Story 3 has become not only 2010's highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada, but also the highest-grossing Pixar film of all time, both domestically and worldwide. As of the time I write this, Box Office Mojo has reported that the film has grossed $398,602,095 domestically, about the 11th highest-grossing film of all time. Worldwide, it has grossed $897,302,095, making it the 15th highest-grossing film of all time worldwide--the highest-grossing film behind Shrek 2. I'm of the opinion that, giving the film another few weeks in theaters, it could pass up Shrek 2 to become the highest-grossing film of all time. It is slated to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 2 in the United States.

Apart from that, there are a few interesting bits on another Ice Age movie coming in 2012, a third Madagascar film coming during the same time, and a sequel to How to Train Your Dragon. But the biggest new piece of news is Winnie the Pooh, a theatrical cell-animated movie from Disney Animation, is on schedule and will arrive in theaters on July 15, 2011.

The film will feature five stories, adapted from the original books by A.A. Milne, animated in the same style as the original Pooh stories. This isn't anything like the Pooh cartoons you might have seen on TV when you were younger. This film seems like a very serious attempt by Disney to get into the spirit of the original stories. And it's not just a movie some people decided to make because they were bored, either. Burny Mattinson, who worked personally on some of the previous films, is the lead storyboard artist. John Lasseter, famous for being Pixar's co-founder and currently head of Disney's animation department, is producing the film, and has stated that the film will be made as a parallel to the books, rather than as a spin-off or sequel to other Winnie the Pooh movies made by Disney. Since it's coming out in just eleven months, this, I think, is something to look forward to!

ive known about madagascar 3 for some time now - me and emandem like to wiki XD there were rumors of a shrek 5 before number 4 came out, so all that 'last chapter' rubbish was just to shove you through the doors, anway theres something else you might want to look out for.
i really enjoyed ts3 - best of the lot (but i havent seen the first one in yonks!). its nice to hear about how to train your dragon - i adored that film. david tennant had 1 line in it, and that was one of the reasons i went to see it. guess what - i missed his character saying it :O but its still in speculation, so im not getting my hopes up about it.
ive loved all the ice age films, each one for different reasons. 1 had a great story, 2's animated backgrounds looked better, and 3 was by far the funniest. so continental drift should be good - and ill be there in the cinema pointing out how scientificly accurate they are - because im nerdy like that.
speaking of my nerdiness... the title depressed me. end of summer?! le gasp! since when? we've still got 3 and 1/2 weeks to go yet:icon309: but the weather is slowly getting worse, so yeah, end is near *sigh*

I'm looking forward to How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Ice Age 4, considering I loved the other ones. I can't wait for that Winnie The Pooh movie, either. I guess they're finally bringing back the animation of then 8D And congrats for Toy Story :DD

I'm quite surprised to see many are looking forward to Winnie. How many will actually go to the theaters to see it though? I honestly think I won't, I just can't see myself (26 years old) going to see Winnie the pooh...while I had no problem with TP&TF. :/:

They should have made a film based on the classic characters instead, or based on their Disney Afternoon properties...now that would be something I would REALLY look forward :) And which would have probably more success too. Winnie has just been used way too much already.

Still, it will probably be a very nice film. BTW, it will be released in France before anywhere else (in April 2011) ...probably due to the huge success The Princess & The Frog got here (unlike any other country)

Hmm... I wonder if the Ice Age sequel will be good, as well as the How to Train Your Dragon one. Perhaps it'll be following the second book? The Madagascar sequel I already know about... I look forward to seeing what it'll be about ^ ^ Also looking forward to the Winnie the Pooh as well lol

Summer just started... and now it's ending! It's so sad. However I am happy that Winnie The Pooh is coming out; FINALLY some animation out there!
