To respect the richness of its predecessor, Ice Age 2 has been working hard to ensure that the references are more numerous. Thus, it is no more than filmographic references, but also musical see sometimes even board games! Have you all noticed?
After having a nice overview of the prehistoric weather report, our friends set off, but something disturbs Manny, though he was called to order by Diego. He abandons his doubts, and we discover the aquatic creature trapped ice. Only his eye then move! The reference is an obvious nod to Jurassic Park 3, when only the eye of the raptor moves through the laboratory glass.
Among the films of Spielberg, we also notice a small nod to Jaws with a water monster ascending to the surface.
To stay in the visual references while passing through with music, we can recognise the tune of "Food, Glorious Food", song from the musical Oliver!, reinterpreted by the vultures. Another song reference was nodded when Crash is catapulted through the air and sings "I Believe I Can Fly", a song by R. Kelly, which was used in the Looney Tunes movie Space Jam.
But references are not only drawn from famous movies. A blatant wink is highlighted at the meeting between Diego, Sid, Crash and Eddie, which was the board game Twister!
Similarly, a significant nod will even be the basis of the film. "Noah's Ark" (the famous "boat" announced by the vulture) will save the main characters.
Finally, Ice Age 2 does not hesitate to make a wink to the original film. During Scrat’s visit to Heaven, you can spot the dodos from the first movie!
