History:

She was wandering the streets when she ran into a big, black dog. “I didn’t expect to run into an angel today.” said the black dog. Justine blushed. She had never heard anyone tell her that. “He says that to everybody.” a female voice said. A little yellow dog stepped out from behind a box. “Behave!” the black dog shouted. “Sorry, that’s my adopted daughter, Angel. Isn’t that right, my girl?” “I’m NOT your girl!” Angel said, angrily. Then she stalked off. “Oh, it’s okay.” Justine said. “I’m Justine.” “Buster.” the black dog said. “Where’re you from?” “Nowhere.” Justine answered, wistfully. “I don’t live anywhere.”

“Well you’re in luck!”

“How?!”

“You can stay at my place!”

“Really?”

“Sure! It’s no trouble!”

Justine didn’t know what to say. “Thank you.” She said. So Buster led the way to the junkyard. When they got there, the other dogs greeted them. “Who’s the new girl?” Ruby asked. “This is Justine, my soul mate.” Buster said. Ruby didn’t like the sound of that.

One day, when Buster was searching for food, Ruby went up to Justine. “Listen, Justine, you stay away from Buster, you understand?” “But, Ruby I—,” Justine began. Ruby cut her off. “No buts, he’s MINE!!” “Ruby, I’m pregnant with Buster’s pups!” Justine blurted. “WHAT?!” Ruby was enraged by this. She hit Justine and knocked her out.

When Justine woke up the other dogs were standing around her. “What happened? Are you okay?” Buster was very worried. Justine was dizzy, and she couldn’t remember exactly what happened before she blacked out. “I don’t really remember what happened. But I think I’m okay.” “Oh, good,” Buster sighed. “If Ruby hadn’t come to get me I don’t know what I’d do.” Then it hit her. She remembered everything. Ruby had slapped her when she told her that she was having pups. But she kept these thoughts to herself.

When she had pups, she loved each and every one of them. But Buster told her that they’re junkyard gang was already too big. “We may keep two,” he told her. “When they’re a month old they have to go out and be on their own.”

A month seemed to go by too fast. That day the puppies would have to go live on their own. “Goodbye, children! Come back and visit us sometime!” Justine said. She was sad to see them go, but at least she had the two pups she picked to stay: Rebecca and Toby, the two runts. She thought they weren’t yet strong enough to go out on their own. And Toby had a lung problem, so she wanted him to stay in the junkyard until adulthood.

Meanwhile, in her part of the junkyard, Ruby was very upset. “How could I let this happen?” she said to herself. “I can’t believe I let another dog mate with Buster! If only I could get rid of her!” Then a plan formed in Ruby’s mind. A plan that would get rid of Justine once and for all!

Ruby waited across the street from the junkyard. “Where could Justine be?” Ruby asked herself. Then, as if summoned, Justine appeared. “How do I get across?” she asked. “Just go across when the light turns green.” Ruby answered. So Justine followed Ruby’s instructions, and when the light turned green, she started to go across. Then she froze. She was suddenly surrounded by light! Then she saw it: a car coming straight toward her! She wanted to run, but her legs didn’t move. Then it struck her. She went flying onto the sidewalk. She howled in pain, and slowly died. Ruby ran and hid when she saw Buster coming. “JUSTINE!!” Buster cried when he saw the body. “Justine, come on, wake up!” But she did not move. Justine was dead.
