As a cub, Basma was always teased because she was different. All of her Pride had light coloured coats and noses because it helped them to camouflage with the rocks in where she lived.  

Basma preferred having a quiet life, simple and solitary, away from those that teased her. That is the reason why she left her Pride as a young adult.

She travelled far and wide in search of a Pride that would take in a lioness, but either the Prides were already huge or there wasn’t one in the area.

She’d almost lost hope until she met Imarika. He told her that he had left his Pride in search of love.

Basma told him about her life as a cub and she really doubted her appearance, but Imarika told her that someone would love her no matter what she looks like.

Basma felt happier after that moment in time, and they fell in love.

Basma and Imarika have a cub together, but their cub goes missing. Basma feels despair and sorrow again and loses all hope. Even the comforting words of Imarika didn’t help. Basma almost gave up altogether, but then they found the Utendaji Pride.

The Pride members are comforting and saddened by the loss of Basma and Imarika’s cub, but they start to fill their lives with joy and happiness again. A lion called Kanye became extremely close with Basma and Imarika and considerably made their lives better by being funny or taking them out to clear their minds.

Basma never found out about her cub, nor forgot about her cub either, but she certainly was a lot happier in a Pride where they all cared for her.

The Utendaji Pride was set up so I was able to educate everyone on musicals, one of my favourite things (get the pun?)! I just love them and their songs are so powerful, so each member of the Utendaji Pride is related to a different musical. Every picture of them will relate to a song and I will post the link of the song so you are able to listen to it, as well as a context in the story of the musical.
