Personality:
Karani is a very bubbly and happy lioness, she is outgoing and adventurous and is always willing to try new things. However, due to Karani’s early upbringing she has trouble trusting other lions and tends to keep her personal thoughts to herself. This trait has made it extremely difficult for Karani to be close with a male and prevents her from fulfilling her lifelong ambition for a family.

History:
Karani was born in the outlands, her mother was a single lioness who had struggled for months on her own before giving birth. Karani’s mother taught her much about how to fend for herself, she also told her about her father. Karani was extremely inquisitive and would often question her mother as to why they wouldn’t find a pride to join up with. However Karani’s mother would dismiss her inquiries and then change the subject.

Karani awoke one morning to find that her mother was nowhere to be seen. It was a frosty winter morning and without any other options Karani stayed where she was and froze, waiting for the return of her mother. It had been three days before Karani realised that her mother wasn’t coming back for her, but she didn’t lose hope and for weeks she searched for her mother.

During one of her journeys Karani became trapped in a field that had been set on fire. She was only young and although she had her natural instincts and skills she had been burnt badly on her back leg and ventured over the borders of the pridelands to escape. With all hope lost, Karani lied down and nursed her burning leg, she was tired and had given up on finding her mother. 

Karani had spent hours by herself before help had arrived in the form of a young lioness. It was the queen of the pridelands and without hesitation Nala took Karani back to pride rock. It was only a matter of seconds before the young cub had plenty of clucky lionesses around to help her. Each one willing to adopt Karani as their own, but as Karani’s foot progressed she became extremely hesitant about the idea. She resented her mother and therefore found it difficult to trust anyone else to take the form of one. Karani wanted to fend for herself and that was the way it stayed.

Before long Karani had become an active member of the pride and was even assisting on the hunting trips, which was extremely unusual for cubs. Karani’s skills advanced and she grew into a healthy young lioness whose skills were superior to many of the other hunters. Although Karani didn’t have an actual family, she was a respected part of the pride and was content with her own situation. With the ambition to start a family of her own, Karani worked hard to earn her place amongst the other pride members.

When Karani was in her teen years, the princess of the pride, Kiara, had brought home her boyfriend, Kovu. This caused a large rift between the members of the pride as lions fought over whether or not Kovu could stay. Karani grew fond of Kovu and valued his friendship; the two both had many things in common including both originating in the outlands. Soon enough the two discovered that they had the same father and they were overjoyed to finally have a family member that they were close with. Karani considered Kovu to be her best friend and the two have been inseparable ever since.
