Personality: Maembe is a very hot-headed, stubborn lion. He's quick to defend his views and opinions if they're questioned, and isn't afraid to take it too far. He's quick to start fights, and act on instinct rather than thinking things through first. This often leaves him with severed ties, and arguments in the past have made him lose friends. He often regrets his bad nature, but because of his stubbornness, it takes a lot of prompting to apologize to another, but if he believes he is truly in the right, he'll still slip it into his apology. Around his family, he's very protective and loyal, and he'd do anything for his little siblings. Despite his rebellious nature as a cub, he still respects and loves his parents, and hates going against them, even if he won't admit it. Despite his often confident nature, and playfulness around close friends and family, he's still quite afraid of loving another person, because he feels he isn't likeable due to his past of hurting others. This can often make him seem cold to those who want to grow close to him, and at times even those he cares about. He's insecure that he can't provide well enough for them, and that they think his brother is better, so he hides his insecurity by trying to stay alone, pushing them away, or hurting their feelings. He's wary around strangers, and it takes a long time for him to warm up to anyone enough to trust them, much less have them as a friend, a trait that has developed throughout his years of being a protector.

Maembe was the second born cub in Asali and Moto's first litter after his brother, Moyo. Growing up, he spent a lot of time play fighting with his brother, and learning skills from his father, and he soon became a rather aggressive cub, and somewhat of a bully. When Hiari and Chiku joined from another pride, he became friends with them, but he soon became bitter around Hiari, as he saw her as a very prissy young cub. The two often argued and fought, and at one point, he hurt her feelings badly to the point where she cried. He ended up feeling sorry about it, but wasn't quick to apologize until prompted by his family. He and Hiari became friends after that, and they grew up together.

In his teenage years, his mother and father had their second litter, consisting of Jabali and Alba. He didn't like them at first, and often spoke cruelly of them, but after his friends and family encouraged him, he grew to like his young siblings, and as they grew older, he grew more protective and loving towards them. When he was a young adult, he had the official title of protector alongside his brother, Moyo, and they patrolled borders with their father to protect the pride. He started to grow to like Hiari in a romantic way, however didn't act on his feelings, as he was too nervous to do so. His attention however, soon moved to his sister, Alba, when she attacked another Pridemember after they insulted Asali and Moto. She was exiled for five days, during which time Maembe wanted to go and help her, but was forbidden by his father. When she came back, she had a cub, and explained that she had found the cub abandoned, and decided to take her in. Moto was furious, and refused to regard the cub as his granddaughter, while Maembe took to little Nyimak, and became very close with her.

Soon after, he and Hiari became closer, but he was still afraid to reveal his feelings to her, so he ended up pushing her away, making her furious. After talking to Moyo about his feelings, and thinking about it for a long time, he  talked to Hiari, eventually settling the argument, and the two began to spend more time together. It took a while for Maembe to open up to her, and start to get used to affection, and soon enough, the two became mates. They ended up having their first litter, however one of the cubs, Kukaa, didn't end up making it.

Relation To TLK: Lives in the Pridelands, the leader is descended from Kovu and Kiara.
