Personality

Personality: Insecure, flighty, and startable. Peke doesn’t like being around other animals, and has no pack. He is very anti-social and abhors felines, as well as hyenas. He hates thinking about his past, and if one attempts to get him to talk about it, they’ll have a heck of a time with that. He often has nightmares and suffers from anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and insomnia. He is afraid of lions, and oftentimes wishes death on them. He is a fine story-teller, and despite his dislike of other carnivores, has the hospitality to allow other animals to stay with him until they can go on. He doesn’t allow others to stay for more than four days.

History

                Peke was born into a small pack when Mufasa’s reign went on to a pair of maned wolves who, along with the father's brother, had been kept as pets, imported from South America before their chain-outs had been broken, freeing them. When his parents were free, they immediately mated. He was raised in the jungle not too far from the Pridelands - an area rather like their native habitat - and had a fine beginning. His mother and father were wonderful, and his mother’s brother stayed with them. Before too long they moved into the plains. However, things were about to change significantly. After three months, a group of male jackals ransacked the small pack: They murdered Peke’s parents and uncle as well as all his siblings. Peke only barely survived. He dragged himself away, only to find himself in the Pridelands.

                He wandered there for a good long while before meeting Uzuri, a female Ethiopian wolf.  The two made a pact of kinds – they travelled together in hopes of being able to bring down larger kills. As a result, it wasn’t long before they mated on some mutual agreement. They eventually settled inside the pridelands, in the small pool-side area that Timon had first found. By that time, as it was, Scar had already taken over but the shadow times hadn’t yet hit. His own dark time was just around the corner, though. Peke had lived there with Uzuri for a few months before she gave birth to a litter of five: Three females, two males. They were very proud.
                But the worst was yet to come.

                After a few days, a large male lion – unbeknownst to them, his name was Chumvi – and he attacked the pack. Peke protected his pups and welping mate fiercely, as Uzuri hadn’t been  able to leave her den to eat in days. However, before too long, the lion broke into the den. Uzuri did her best to protect her pups, whos eyes and ears were still so firmly sealed – however, it wasn’t enough. Chumvi managed to get his maw around one of the little females, and crushed her ribs in his jaw, killing her. After that, Peke flew into a rage and forced the lion out.

                But he was not safe.

                Only a month later, Peke went out to hunt for his mate and pups. He didn’t know what was happening at his home until he returned.

                Uzuri and their pups were gone.

                He was frantic. Only a few hours later, he was approached by a Hyena by the name of Banzai. He told the maned wolf that all the carnivores were required to attend a demonstration. Peke realized that his pups and Uzuri were there.

                He went to this ‘demonstration,’ surrounded by other carnivores, large and small. A lion appeared on the point of the rock, and yelled out that they were all to leave. If they didn’t, what family or mate they had – as well as the animals themselves – would be killed. Foreign animals – he looked directly at Peke – would not be accepted under any costs. This was king Scar. At that, he backed up, and the Hyena who had escorted Peke there – who had seemed slightly reluctant and amiable enough – went up onto the rock alongside a female by the name of Shenzi. Uzuri and the pups were brought into view.

                Peke yelled to them, but to no avail. He could do nothing to help. The hyenas attacked them. Uzuri put up quite a fight, trying to shelter the four remaining pups under her, but before long, she was grasped by the throat and thrown off the cliff. Peke knew she was dead. But he couldn’t drag his eyes away from his four pups, who tried desperately to fight the Hyenas off. One of the females succeeded in opening a large wound in Banzai’s leg, but had her throat torn open. The other was seized immediately, her neck snapped. The two males tag-teamed on Shenzi, but for all their gall, only would leave her one scar on the haunch. One of the two – the smaller – was soon taken by Banzai, his stomach ripped open. The larger, thrown to the ground and his head stepped on.

                Peke’s whole family was murdered there before his eyes.

                He escaped that day, but returned to his home den and hid there. He didn’t go out unless he rolled in the water, hiding his existence. But eventually, Simba came back and killed Scar, freeing the Maned wolf from the prison that was his own home. Peke didn’t trust Simba at all, even less Kovu. He matured into a very fine-off adult, though, and hopes to rebuild his pack someday…

Notes for Rendering/Drawing Peke

• Peke is best-rendered from Balto. Your best bet is to cut the original image of Balto, making the legs noticeably longer, and pulling out his neck a bit.
• He has a fluffy ruff of fur around the neck(Most maned wolves do).
• He is a bit smaller than lions, but about as tall.
