Sabiha was born into a large Pride. Her father had recently taken over the Pride and Sabiha was one of his first born cubs. He had originally come from near the Mountain Pride, where his sister Kula was currently living.

Sabiha’s mother was very caring, but her father hated her because he wanted a male heir, therefore Sabiha was forced to work from a young age. The types of jobs she did, along with other cubs in the Pride, included hunting small animals and keeping guard watch.

As a teen, Sabiha’s father hadn’t had an heir he was proud of, but he contacted the local Pride and soon a new young lion came to see if he would like to rule. Sabiha fell in love with this stranger, and he fell in love with her, but then he left suddenly and never said why. Sabiha asked her father, crying, why he had to go. He replied that he felt he couldn’t rule the kingdom.

Soon, Sabiha met Hamza. He was treated badly too, having been a cub at the time of her father’s taking over the Pride. She loved to stargaze with him, but only when no one else could see.

But the work got even tougher. Hamza suggested they should go on strike and Sabiha helped him rally the other teens.

They fought bravely, but they lost. In the middle of the fight, Sabiha lost Hamza, but she soon found him confronting her father. She watched as Hamza was knocked out cold and how his mother fought, and lost. Sabiha rushed over to Hamza and prayed he would survive. She carried out of the Pride and far away where she tried to revive him. A few hours later, he woke up, only to find her father standing over them. He told them they were exiled.

Sabiha and Hamza didn’t mind exile – they just walked until they found the Utendaji Pride, where they were welcomed.

The Utendaji Pride was set up so I was able to educate everyone on musicals, one of my favourite things (get the pun?)! I just love them and their songs are so powerful, so each member of the Utendaji Pride is related to a different musical. Every picture of them will relate to a song and I will post the link of the song so you are able to listen to it, as well as a context in the story of the musical.
