I'm sorry, Kovu fans!
Jason Marsden, the voice actor of adult Kovu has confirmed lately that we most likely won't see Kovu in the new Lion King TV series, Lion Guard. The original article also jumps to a brave conclusion that Kovu's absence in Lion Guard means that he is dead, but I personally wouldn't worry about it, as the site is obviusly trying to make it a cheap sensation.
Kovu and Kiara met for the first time when they were cubs and their second meeting happened long time after that, when they were young adults already. There's plenty of timeline to include Kion without needing to include Kovu. And it's very unlikely that Disney will kill off a character for no reason in a show that is supposed to be aimed at preschoolders.
Anyway, Lion Guard is going to have plenty of new characters, let's hope they will be as likeable as Kovu!

Steet -> But why Kiara would be here and not Kovu if that was the
reason? =o Anyway, that's a sad new. Kovu is a really cool character with a good potential, I don't understand why he shouldn't be on the series =o! |

I have a feeling that Disney don't really consider TLK2 as "canon".
Because of the whole "Disney direct-to-video sequels are bad" thing.

Sorry if this seems out of the blue, but since this will be aimed at
preschoolers does anyone think that these characters will be telling
the preschoolers that it is important that they get trained on how to
use the restroom by the characters needing to do the same thing? If
you would like to know why I asked this question, just let me know and
I will be more than happy to talk about it. |

I don't think Kovu was necessary in Lion Guard. Except everyone
wanting to see him, the show is going to be focused on kids - Kion and
his friends, not the older lions, especially that Kovu already had his
movie. |

I was just reading that article earlier, trying to decide whether I
should post a fan news on this or not.  But it really is a shame
that Kovu won't be showing up in The Lion Guard. Although I'll admit,
I was starting to suspect this after a while... |
