Simba headed out of the den for the first time in his life by parents trusted him to go out and meet new cubs his age, so out he went.

"Finally! I never thought I would be out alone!" He said to himself. His first though was to go to the waterhole and make some friends. He had a few ideas on how to make some as well. Soon he arrived and went to one of the many groups of cubs at the waterhole.

"Hello new found friends." He said smugly. "Your prince is here to lighten your day."

"Rude!" One of the cubs said. "Even if you are the prince, I will never be friends with you!" The group then laughed and walked away from him.

"Fine! See how you like banishment when I'm older!" He yelled in reply. "When they were out of ear shot, he said to himself, "Let's try a humbler approach." He then went up to another group of cubs. "Good morning, your all's prince had you his friends." He said with a smile.

"So he had a servant say that to us?" One of the cubs said to him.

"Uh, no. I'm the prince..." He trailed off, the sentence finally striking him. He left, head low, ashamed, and a whole group of cubs laughing at him. He tried several more times, with similar results. He eventually gave up and headed over the shade of a rock. He laid down in it and cried himself asleep. Soon, another cub, Nala, came up to the same rock. She had just moved to the Pridelands, having run from her old pride with her younger brother, Mheetu, and mother, Sarafina, after her father died. She tried to make friends, and almost did, but Mheetu completely embarrassed her. She laid down on the other side of the rock, and sighed. She eventually fell asleep as well. Soon, Simba awoke, not knowing about Nala on the other side of the rock. He got up and walked to the other side of the rock to go home. Suddenly he tripped on a root in the ground and fell into Nala.

"Ow!" Simba and Nala both said getting up.

"Uh, sorry about that..." Simba said, his head hanging low.

"No, its fine."

There was a moment of silence between the two.

"So, do you have any friends?" Nala said, breaking the silence.

"No, you?"

"No. Do you want to be my friend?"

"Sure!" Simba said. He finally looked up. Simba's eyes widened. "Woah..." He looked into Nala's bright green eyes and her cream fur.

"What?" Nala asked.

"You... You look beautiful..." He was completely lost in her eyes.

Nala giggled. "Thanks. You don't look too bad yourself."

"Thanks." Simba said.

"So, what's your name?"

"Simba, yours?"

"Nala."

"So, uh, want to play tag?"

"Sure!"

With that, the two want off and spent the rest of the day playing. When night fell they ran into the den together, laughing.

"Want to do the same thing tomorrow?" Simba asked.

"Sure!"

The two cubs went to a corner and laid down.

"So, where are your parents?" Simba asked.

Nala sighed. "My dad... he..." She paused. Tears were roiling down her face. "He died..." She put her face into his fur, crying. Next thing she knew, Simba was hugging her, comforting her. She looked into his eyes.

"It's ok, I've got you." He said to her quietly. Nala put her hear on his shoulder, feeling at peace.

"Thank you."

Soon the two feel asleep together, Nala nestled into Simba's fur.
