The Lion King is my favourite movie. There are so many movies that I watch once in a while, and then don't watch them again for a while. But the Lion King is not one of them. It is the one film that I can watch over and over again and never get tired of seeing it.
Basically, it is a coming-of-age story about the bond between a lion and his young son - the great Lion King Mufasa, and his cub, Simba. Set in the Pride Lands of Africa, Simba's destiny is to succeed his father as the king, and leader of his pride. However, Mufasa's brother, and Simba's uncle, Scar, has ambitions of his own to become king instead. Tragedy occurs when Scar lures Simba and Mufasa into a stampede, where Mufasa is killed trying to save his son. Tricked into thinking he is responsible for his father's death, Simba flees the Pride Lands and abandons his identity as the future king. As he grows up, Simba must learn to look within himself to find the courage to return home, set things right and take his place in the Circle of Life.
The Lion King is one of the most emotional and heartwarming movies I have ever seen. The story is compelling, along with the dramatic underscore and music that accompanies it. It's a story that many people can relate to on a personal level, including myself... the fact that life comes with many personal struggles, times of courage, hope, sadness, love, responsibility, and above all, family.
