Songs Poll and box office status | Tweet |
As many of you have seen the film now (I saw it in theaters in France this morning!), I have added a poll to see which songs you've liked the most. (To me : "Dig a little deeper", followed by "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans") I guess I'll have to add the lyrics!
Also, here's a little update on how The Princess & The Frog is currently performing at the box office.

Well, it's a bit better this week : the film is holding up well, even if the numbers are still low. After 4 weeks, it has now made a total of 86M$ (compared to its budget of 105M$) I certainly hope that its breaks the 100M$...come on Tiana, you're "almost there"!
Unfortunately, I'm not sure that will be enough to convince Disney to continue the 2D rebirth, seeing how wonderfully a crappy movie (sorry for the word, but it truly is - check the reviews) like Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 is doing (150M$ in only 2 weeks...)
I guess only time will tell. We still have to see how it does internationally, and the film could make big sales on DVD. (I think this is highly possible : people are less used to see films like this in theaters than 3D)

I already figured they owned Marvel before the "reveal"(I guess). They
were playing Spiderman and X-men when it was still "Toon Disney". Then
again, they were also playing Batman the animated series and Superman
"...". That's were it confuses me. I find Playhouse Disney wrong by ruining a good franchise by adding a Mary-sue and a dog to the cast. It's wrong! $@#%! For me, I liked the spin-off series since the cast followed the demographic there was. In Aladdin, you had Iago for the parents, Jasmine for the mothers and lusting fanboys, and Aladdin for everybody. |

"I wish Disney would drop the whole, "teen programming" and focus on
all ages" => Exactly. All ages, I have said it already and I believe this is the main current problem. They should focus on making things that everyone will like, instead of focusing on one specific age/social group (which is why I don't like the "Disney princesses", Mickey & Winnie the pooh preschoolers, the "teen series", the whole Disney XD boy-only thing, or the recent Marvel purchase.) They started doing that with the 2000, and that's what's killing them slowly. P&TF is really an exception... |

Avatar could have been so much better, but as my father says(he agrees
with my view on what film could have been), "They just want to see
things blown up real good". That's to me a Micheal Bay defense, in my
opinion. Alvin... Is contemporary. Nothing of merit. Really? That's what parent think of good material for their children... Oh, so the first film was just great since a rodent ate it's own feculence in the trailer. Wow. That kind of mirrors the audience in a way. Can someone explain to me why making high-pitch variations of contemporary collections tends to be a good soundtrack?! That's not "good", that's cheap and terrible! Christmas Carol wasn't that great! Jim Carry was a bad choice for Scrooge. He overplayed the part, not giving the subtle actions of Dicken's himself(Ebineezer Scrooge is actually a author avatar of Charles Dickens, not exactly a evil miser that people tend to play). Why doesn't Robert Zemekis just learn that live action actors are just as fine. What exactly is with that Big Lipped Aligator Moment with the funeral carraige chase anyway? I'd rather hear the plunderer's derge, "We're Despicable"! You know what's funny? Critics panned this film for not having much rascism in the film! What the heck?! So, Critics rather see rascism, than a story(excluding Ebert since he said that "it's a story, not some overdone 3D film)... Their idiots! The only time Disney showed rascism in the film was for a plot device to give Facilier a moment for her to think about what people spoke against her. I'm refering to the Fenner and Fenner scene at the party. "A woman of your background". Though, I guess critics would think that more of a feminist attack than racial situation. On another point, I wish Disney would drop the whole, "teen programming" and focus on all ages. Gargoyles worked since it was sophisticated yet hit on every age. It's a story, not some stereotypical and mondane rip-off one after the another. |

I don't understand that either, although I guess there could be some
reasons : - Nowadays kids are not interested in 2D because they weren't born with it, like us, and many little kids may never have seen a 2D film in their whole life. Soon they'll refuse to see films without 3D glasses, because it's "fashion"... And ignorant parents bringing their kids to anything to entertain them. - Kids have different tastes for films. I'm sure if you ask them, many will find Alvin 2 "awesome" and Princess & the frog "boring". Without any explanation of course. - Probably better marketing for Alvin - Disney having a bad image, for a few reasons (the direct to video sequels, the "Disney princess" or "Tinker Bell" brands...) - Avatar : I have seen many parents bringing their kids to this film...while it's totally not for them. And adults who could have been interested in P&TF may have gone to see Avatar instead. - Prejudice against the film : "yet another princess story?..." => probably the most stupid reason IMO, but I have heard it already... - Families waiting to get it on DVD, which is cheaper - Too many animated films released this year (including another Disney film : "Christmas Carol") - Racial controversies... Then again, I honestly can't say which one of these could be the real problem, it's still a mistery. Maybe a mix of everything. I guess Disney is currently looking for the real reason too. Before its release, I had really expected it to be one of the highest grossing animated film of the year. Which is why I'm so disappointed...(NOT by the film quality of course, it's very good) |

That part about Alvin in the chipmunks makes me flabberghasted! Why do
people want to see that load of banana oil when they could see a true
and timeless story like Princess and the Frog?! |
