What Year? © Spirit

The year that Spirit took place.

Well this one had me confused for a while because I always wondered when Spirit's story took place. I think I figured it out!

So here's what we know for sure:

-Spirit took place BEFORE our time

-Spirit took place AFTER the Civil War (the Indian Wars hadn't started until after then)

-Spirit helped pull something used to make the train system used today (called the Transcontinental railroad)

Soooo I looked up when things happened and tried to figure things out that way.

The Transcontinental railroad was finished in the west in: 1869

(They talk about it in the movie while Spirit was pulling the steam engine thing)

LAKOTA Indians (Little Creek's Tribe) were attacked by the calvary between: 1868-1877

And guess who was fighting at the war with the Lakota: George Custer or "Colonel Custer" who is represented by "The Colonel" in Spirit's movie!

So Spirit's movie takes place 1868-1869 (Spirit's movie takes a year for those who don't know... it goes through all four seasons)!!!

Thanks. I knew it wasn't the 20th century. I knew it wasn't in the middle ages. I was thinking aroung highland clearances time (1800's) I thought so! Thanks!

In the movie, the Colonel says ' There are those in Washington....' blah blah blah, anyway I'm guessing that's where the movie takes place.

well i did some research about where the film is set, and there is a cimmaron in colorado. they never mention the name of the canyon at the end, many just assume it is the grand canyon. but in colorado, there is the black gorge and the gunnison gorge, both have parts made out of black granite and red sandstone. interesting huh?
should i do a little article on this (if there isnt one already)?

Awesome, nice thinking! I would never ahd thought to do that, honestly. And as to where they lived, in the beginning of the movie, Spirit stated that his homeland would become to be called the Old West.

well i think he live in wymoning or something but all we know is he lived in the west in a big homeland also when were doing this year in my history class im going to begg my teacher to let me bringing it in

if you have the dvd of this movie if you go to the making of spirit they say that when the heared about horses in the west pull a train they had to put in the movie so that was a real event

that could be true, but then again, no one knows where exactly Spirit takes place. all anyone knows is he lives by a canyon, mountains and grassland which could be almost anywhere i the west.

Um... the only thing I have to say was that Custer was stationed in the Dakota Territory not in the southwestern US... I visited his house, fort and everything. even though I feel the animators made a Custer clone simply because he was a regocniseable figure.
