Released in 2002 in the United States and Europe, the film did not enjoy great success.  Indeed, Disney showed in theaters in the same period Treasure Planet, which itself made few entries compared to other animated features.  The main reason seems to be the 3D animations which became fashionable at this period: the own DreamWorks already working on a sequel to the famous Shrek, Finding Nemo announced by Disney and Pixar, etc. ....

  However, it's a good surprise to see animals speak perfectly without even speaking (a gamble but pleasantly successful) and this allowed the film to raise awareness without becoming as renowned a chief lumber.

 After Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas the same producers, the success of Spirit is not enough to convince the studios to continue the animation from 2D ... and even the latest DreamWorks are not ready to abandon the use of 3D in 2D, although it should be "hybridized" to the computer as are Spirit and Sinbad.

Several stars have participated in the making of this film, such as Simon Wells (director of Balto) who worked on the animation, Brian Adams and Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Armageddon, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight to name a few) for the music, directed by Lorna Cook (The Lion King).

Inspired by the famous Conquest of the West, this film allows exploring vast landscapes and wild Indian tribes plagued with American soldiers. All this seen through a spirited horse.
