Kiyor was born to Dark Sun and Kira in  early spring. His mother died giving birth to him, and his father Dark Sun could not care for a newborn foal on his own, so he brought Kiyor to the Cimarron herd where his cousin Spirit lived and his Aunt Esperanza lived. Esperanza took Kiyor under her wing and raised him, becoming his adopted mother. Kiyor grew quickly just like his father Dark Sun did when he was a foal. Kiyor was clever and quick and everyone in the Cimarron herd loved him. His father checked in on hmm every few months, but usually it was just him and Esperanza in terms of family. There were few foals in the CImarron herd due to a sickness that swept through, leaving many of the foals dead or weak enough to be picked off by predators. Kiyor managed to keep many of the mares spirits high with his happy go lucky attitude and silly games. Dark Sun loved his son dearly, but he reminded him of Kiyor's mother, Kira. He had named Kiyor in memory of Kira. Kiyor hoped that one day he will be able to make his father proud.
