History:
Maria was born in the Albino Herd a couple years after her brother, Hysteria. She was close to her brother, although he was much like their father. Her mother was a simple being and she wasn't all there. Her father is the evil The Albino. Maria hated her life in her monstrous father's herd. She ran when her father went out on a scouting trip, running as far away as she possibly could.
Life became lonley and boring. Maria is a mare that loves to have fun and be in the company of others. She turned to stallions, although this got her hardly anywhere. Some shunned her because she wasn't very beautiful, rather a plain Jane, or because of the fact that they already had a mate or enough mares. The few stallions who were intrigued by Maria were no good. they were cruel and uncaring, not much of a friend or lover at all.
Maria resented them and turned away from them, giving up on finding company. But thankfully she did find a stallion who treated her like the lady she was. His name was Seishin and he quickly became her everything. She loved him with all her heart and she truly thought that she had become his mate...Until Apple Crumble joined in. The beautiful mare became Seishin's mate and Maria had no choice but to watch them fall in love. What she didnt know was that Seishin hadn't any love for Maria, thinking of her as a friend. So she turned her back on the confused stallion, returning to the life of a loner. But then her life made a turn for the best.
It was really cold that night. The wind was blowing fiercely and the air warned of a storm. It had dropped to thirty degrees by ten o'clock. Maria was huddled up in the cold beneath a frond of oak trees, attempting to save as much of her body heat as she could. She tucked her tail in and arched her neck, keeping her head near her chest. The position was utterly uncomfortable but it was keeping her from losing too much heat. The howling of the wind muffled her hearing and she didn't even hear another horse come up in front of her. "What are you doing?" a male voice asked her, obviously questioning her awkward stance. Maria jerked her head up in alarm, ready to defend herself, but her eyes only met the gentle eyes of the stallion before her. Something in his gaze made her relax and she let out a shivering laugh. "J-j-just t-trying t-t-to ke-keep f-f-f-f-from f-freezing!" she stuttered and the stallion let out a short laugh. "Well why don't you come with me and you can huddle around with my family and keep warm?" he offered. Instantly instinct told her to shy away but she knew she'd regret it if she turned him down and froze during the night. So she agreed. "K." she said, stepping forward. He turned and led her back. Maria was curious to see what he looked like, other than his eyes, but it was hard to see in the darkening world. She followed him for a short ways and she became increasingly excited about what awaited her. The territory had a strange feel about it and there was mist in the air. She knew this mist must come from some where. When they made it to their arrival she knew why. She could hear the soft roar of many waterfalls and could feel how warm the air that was coming off of them was. She gathered around with the other horses, who she thought were mares due to the way they sounded when they greeted her. Now a little warmer, she drifted off to sleep. In the morning she was stunned by what she saw when she opened her eyes. The valley was huge and she could only see a portion of it. One of the waterfalls that she could hear was near her and she could see it from where she stood. After she finished gawking at the land around her she turned to the other horses. They were mainly mares and extremely beautiful at that. She couldn't help but be jealous, but they were all so kind to her and treated her like she was a member of the family although they didn't even know her. A few had foals by their sides and Maria couldn't help but gawk at them. She hadn't seen any foals since she was one herself, and none of them had been nearly as long-legged and beautiful as these. Or maybe Maria's perspective of foals had changed and they were just as her siblings had been when they were foals. Maria broke away from the group, eyeing a few stallions that lingered around them. She was dieng to meet the one who had introuduced her to this wonderful place. She got as close as she dared to the stallions, close enough to look in their eyes. They just gave her a 'what are you looking at?' glance. None of them had the soulful and beautiful eyes of the stallion who had saved her last night. But, she finally found him. He was something to behold, that was for sure. He wasn't extrodinarily powerful or handsome, but he had a air around him. She trusted him. She knew it was him as soon as he opened his eyes and treated her with a welcoming smile. Maria went closer to him. "Heya." she said, peppily and the stallion rose a brow. "Hello to you too." he replied. Maria looked around, now feeling awkward. "So....uh... Thank you for helping me out back there... I really, and I mean REALLY appreciate it! If you hadn't come along when you did I would have frozen by tail off!" she exclaimed, making him laugh again. "Well that wouldn't have been very pleasant. My name is Odyssey, the leader of this herd." Maria's ears perked up. He was the leader? She couldn't say that he didn't look leaderly, but most lead stallions she had come by had immediately tried to overpower her. This stallion treated her as a equal. Maria gave him a curt nod. "I'm Maria." she replied and he nodded. "Feel free to stay if you wish."
