Basic Information
The Colonel of the Cavalry Fort into which Spirit is brought, he crosses paths with the film's protagonist on several occasions. Portrayed as a 'villain' (and seen as the symbol of 'The Conquering of the West'), he nonetheless eventually comes to a mutual understanding with Spirit.
Featured In: "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" film, and book of same name (by Kathleen Duey); other books, etc. of the franchise

Appearance: tall, slightly tanned skin and long brown hair, wears Cavalry uniform ( his rank defined by the gold stripes on shoulders of his tunic, by white neckerchief and his wide-brimmed hat).

It has been confirmed by the writer John Fusco that in an early story draft the Colonel was originally going to be General Armstrong Custer.

I would like to add to this discussion. I also did consider the
Colonel being based off of Custer, as they do look very similar.
Also, all this information i'm about to state came from my U.S history
class.. Just like Custer, he attacked the Lakota, which is what
Little Creek's tribe name was. He also compared him to the Cheyenne
tribe and another tribe, I'm not too sure which one, my DVD is badly
scratched and I cant find the scene on YouTube. But to skip ahead,
the Lakota are camped beside a creek.. History nerd are you getting
something? Now for those of you who know, Custer dies at that battle.
HOWEVER, this is a kids movie, not everyone goes by the story.
Pocahontaus was 12 and John Smith was 27! So of course we see him
later on after the battle staring Spirit down. Anyways, this is just
a conspiracy, maybe some ideas for those of you wanting to create new
characters with a juicy calvary background |

ny people don't know that after the battle of Little Big Horn, Colonel
Custer's wife had the government find his body and bring it back to
west point to have a prober barryal for him. His grave is still in the
west point armed guard cematary where he and his wife lie in peace. He
is general Custer because after you are killed In acton or die of old
age you will be promoted to the next rank. |

The Colonel was originally based off of George Armstrong Custer right
before of Little Big Horn. The only difference is the Dreamworks team
changed his hair color. |
