Disney's next 2D animated film - unexpected!

Written by steet :

Disney's Discworld animated filmIt's now official : the new project from Ron & John Musker (aka the directors behind Aladdin, The Princess & The Frog...) is an adaptation from one of the Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, "Mort" !

There were already rumors that Disney wanted to do very different things from now on, and this project confirms it.

I have never read the books myself, but I have fond memories of the two video games that were released in 1995/1997, which are (to me) two of the best point'n click adventures games ever made. And I wouldn't mind at all Disney to borrow some of the art style from these games, considering it was very good!

I think it's a pretty good idea. These books have not been much exploited in films, and it has a potentially wide appeal, to kids, adults and families.

Of course, considering the film is still in very early developments, it won't be released before a few years - 2013 or 2014 at best. But now, at least, we know what to expect from the next major western traditional-animated film!

Looks like 2D animation is not "dead" yet! (ok, bad pun...)

Dude... the next 2D feature is Winnie The Pooh.. It will be released in 2011.... Disney's strategy = one 2D moive every 2 years = WIN!

They said that in 2004, but brought Princess & The Frog in 2009. They haven't stopped, but it's very slow motion (one 2D film every 5 years really isn't much...especially when compared to how many CGI films are released each year)

"These books have not been much exploited in films"
Hum, not really. About a dozen of these books have been adaptated into films, they weren't release in theaters or not even on french television, but they exist in english :)

If this happens to be true, I only hope Disney won't "ruin"the initial story. (censored) , I can't wait for it ayway :)

I researched 'Mort' for English last year so I vaguely know the story. Terry Pratchett is a fantastic author [although you really have to concentrate at times] and it's great that they are doing more with the story. And it's even better that it's a 2D animation by Disney!:p
