About Baloo?

Question :
Kohaku Zero :

I haven\'t watched the series in a long time, but is this the same Baloo from [TalesSpin] to the Jungle Book?

I was just wondering, because I haven\'t seen the show in like years.

Best answer :
steet :

Yes and no; he "bears" the same appareance (except that he has hands instead of claws - would have been tough piloting planes with claws...), and a bit of the same characters (lazy, easy going, and at the same time caring...)
But the setting is very different. He's a pilot, works for a business lady, has money problems, etc...
It's almost a re-invented character, because the show itself has really nothing to do with the Jungle Book.

I understand the question has been solved, but I thought I'd throw in my .02 cents.

Like Steet said, this Baloo is almost a reinvented character, thus a different version of the Jungle Book character. You'll notice that there's a couple similarities between the source version from JB and the Talespin version such as his enjoyment of food, his father/son relationship with Kit and Mowgli, and reused dialogue such as 'I'm Gone', 'little britches' or even his style of dialogue in general. Now for the aspect of him being an employee for H4H, the creators gave him the Cheers angle, giving him qualities akin to Sam [loses his bar to a business woman; akin to Baloo losing his plane to Rebecca Cunningham].

In a similar fashion in my Trouble Shooter series [work in progress], the character Christopher Peeper is based off the original Chris from Superbook, but is a reinvented character and kinda takes some inspiration from Talespin's Baloo. Due to that series still being worked on, I can't really reveal too much details of the plot or too much about his character, other than the fact that Chris is a huge metal/grunge fan.

Yep - I've got an article pending (awaiting approval for posting) which explains the differences between how the three recurring characters (Baloo, Louie and Shere Khan) differ between how they are portrayed in "The Jungle Book" animated movie, and the "TailSpin" animated series. Should be interesting reading!

Keep watching the articles page - hopefully it will get approved soon!
