Personality: On the outside he appears normal and sane, but on the inside, he is delusional and completely insane, all brought on by the death of his expectant mate months earlier. There are times when he hallucinates and is completely out-of-touch with reality. During these times, he says things that don't make much (or any) sense. He does have a soft side, but hasn't shown it since his mate's death.

History: He was born in a hutch on Nuthanger farm, where he lived for a few months until he escaped due to boredom. He soon came across Sandleford warren, where he was taken in. 

     A few years later, Purslane started to fall in love with one of his friends, a lovely doe by the name of Lavender, and she was head-over-heels for him. They soon became mates, and Lavender was soon expecting. But that joyous time was short-lived. One morning, Purslane awoke to the panicking of rabbits running by his burrow, clearly trying to escape from something. Minutes later, the sound of his pregnant mate coughing grabbed his attention. The air in the warren was starting to smell strange and foul.

'What in Frith's name is going on?', thought Purslane. He tried to get his mate to come with him to escape the poison gas-filled warren, but she insisted "Save yourself! Go on without me!" until her final breath. And he did, as difficult a choice as it was. But going on without his Lavender would be easier said than done.

     As Purslane fled, what he saw happening to Sandleford warren traumatized him further - several massive yellow hrududil tearing it open, showing no mercy for the warren's residents.

     He was quickly taken in by a nearby ally warren, where one of Purslane's friends from that warren took him into their burrow until he could recover. But instead of getting over Lavender's death and Sandleford warren's destruction, Purslane began to lose his mind and go insane; his pregnant mate dying right in front of him, combined with his home's destruction, was too traumatic and painful for him to handle.

     Seeing that Purslane wasn't going to recover anytime soon, and that he was starting to scare the warren's residents, he was forced out.

     Since he had no warren to go back to, he decided (with what remained of his sanity) he would start a new one, and sought a suitable location on which to establish it. He soon found a recently-abandoned burrow on a tree-covered hill, some distance from Watership Down. The burrow was on the sloped side of the hill, and faced out across the area, so he would see any man or elil coming.

     He smelled no death or disease, and went in to check out the burrow. After that began the search for officers for his new warren...

Warren rules and punishments:

*All who join must give up their name, and be given a new name by Purslane.

*No does are to be allowed in the warren under any circumstances. If a doe shows up, even if they're just seeking shelter, they are to be turned away.

*No talking about the past.

*No stories of El-ahrairah.

*Anyone who betrays or attempts to escape will be scarred and never allowed to leave.

*If an officer questions Purslane's orders, that officer is to be brought to his burrow, where their fate is decided by Purslane himself.
