Name: Zornroo

Meaning/Origin: Zorn is lapine for “Destroy” Or “Annihilate,” combined with the suffix “Roo,” A diminutive. In essence, Zornroo means “Little destroyer” or “Little annihilator.” As a kitten and before he made a name of himself, it was used affectionately as "Little Killer," as you would refer to a puppy or child.

Physical appearance: Lithe and small-framed. Zornroo does not have great stature and one would not take him for a feared captain, due to being noticeably smaller than the other captains.

Genetics trivia: Vienna is the gene that produces blue-eyed white rabbits, but if you breed two BEWs, you’ll get black-and-white brokens, often with far more white than Zornroo has. He is a vision of a marking pattern I’d like to perfect.

General Saxifrage: “Friend” is a loose term when referring to anyone on the list – Zornroo is not an outwardly friendly individual. He respects Saxifrage and will not object if she is to call him by his full name – possibly because he doesn’t dare to. However, more likely is that he simply would rather not challenge her authority and trusts it shows that if he is so far below the General that he does not fight back should she call him by ‘Zornroo’, others disrespecting her would be utter suicide.

The Speaker of the Past: In an unusual turn of events, Zornroo met the Speaker of the Past just after the destruction of the Darkhaven Owsla. He enjoyed listening to her stories and in fact admired her memory, and took joy in what she spoke about the Dark One.

Thrennion: Captain of Zornroo’s same Owsla, Thrennion is one of a few Zornroo allows to call him by his full name. He does not mind Thennion’s joking, and enjoys how light-hearted the buck is in stark contrast to Zorn’s cold and calm exterior. After he was demoted, Thrennion got some less friendly treatment from Zornroo.

Sycamore: In the process of establishing himself as an owsla member, Zorn noticed most other rabbits avoided Sycamore due to discomfort from his psycosis. Zorn made it a personal challenge to befriend him for this reason alone - simply to prove he can and is not intimidated even by Sycamore. He did end up genuinely liking Sycamore all the same.

Flax: While she isn't terribly fond of Zornroo, as one wouldn't be when they're a tortured prisoner in a warren of pain, there was something about Saxifrage's sister that caught the captain's attention from the start. Upon her blinding by Saxifrage herself, Zornroo took Flax in as one of his brood does. He is perhaps more attached to her than most of his does, and tends to pay more attention to her than many of them. She seems to be warming up to him a little bit, but only a fool would see the relationship as mutual and loving.

Valerian: Zorn's relationship to Valerian is different than any of his brood does. The pair regularly patrol together and he can regularly be found in her company. Zornroo admires both her exotic appearance and her wild personality, and recognizes that if he were to choose a companion to publicly be considered his mate, she would do very well. He is notably more social with her and enjoys patrolling alongside her.

Enemies:

Vervain: Whilst on his campaign along the way to New Efrafa, Zornroo met Vervain and despised his fearful and filthy lying. To Zorn, nothing is more pitiful than cowardice Vervain displayed. However, he kept Vervain around to lead him to New Efrafa.

Cowslip: Two words alone explain what it is that Zornroo hates more than anything: cowardice and lying combined. While Vervain displays one or the other, Cowslip uses one and the other at once in synchrony. When Zorn realized what he was up to, murdering the members of his own warren, who he should protect.

Mental

Personality: Cold and collected, Zornroo has an appearance of a total lack of emotion. Many fear triggering the only one he seems to express – anger. And this anger is not particularly a typical anger, but rather a cold rage. He will attack and fight, but not with flying anger one generally sees. Zorn keeps his head and has a good one – he is clever, and knows that everything has a time and place. He has a habit of thinking well in advance, and knows how to use intimidation, despite his size. He is very ruthless when he is called to fight. He answers only to his superiors and any mark rabbit asking anything of him knows they are a fool – Zorn is no inclined to help them. However, should he be asked by his superiors to do something, he does so without a word. He will give a good cuffing to anyone below him who crosses him, and does so brutally – despite being small, he is dangerous, mostly because though he isn’t great in stature, he has no inhibitions in battle and fights solely to kill. He does not waste time in doing so and the moment he is given an opportunity to kill, he will do so without hesitation.

Interestingly enough, though, Zornroo has a great capacity for respect. To his brood does he is like a prince – cold as he still is, he treats them very well. Zorn will afford only the best burrows for them. Any buck below Zorn who dares threaten, attack, or otherwise harass one of his does will have a terrible wrath to answer to, and even bucks above Zorn will be spoken to firmly. Saxifrage, even, would be asked kindly to be more gentle to his does – unless of course, the punishment is deserved. In the winter, Zorn has even pulled his own fur to help a doe with kits out should she not be in danger of the cold if she pulled too much. He is, however, still very cold and emotionless to them and will carry out any punishment asked of him.

Zornroo has never liked his name very well and does not take kindly to being called by it except by superiors or close friends. Doing so if outside these limits is asking for a very unpleasant battle.

Quotes:

“That’s Captain Zorn to you, Outskirter.” – Generally in response to being called by full name by a lower rank, using outskirter as an insult, referring to lowest ranking bucks in most warrens.

“Spirit wins a fight, not muscle. If it was all muscle, then Woundwort never would have been defeated.” – Referring to battle, drawing the conclusion that Hazel won through will.

Strengths:

Ruthless: Zornroo has no inhibitions in battle and tends to be good at winning fights because of it – he has no problem fighting dirty.

Weaknesses:

 Small: Zornroo has a harder time fighting with large rabbits due to his size.

History:

Before his birth, Zornroo’s parents were pets who lived in a  barn hutch. But before long, it burnt down – when the hutches fell apart, the pair ran. They escaped onto the downs and did their best to make out a little warren. In time, several other rabbits joined them, but the pair stayed together.

Eventually, they gave a birth two six kits. Two did not live, but the rest were all strong and healthy.

All except Zornroo, who was smaller and weaker than the rest. Ever since the start, though, he fought for survival and equality, even in the nest where he kicked his way to milk. Even from the start, every rabbit in the warren knew what he would become.

As he grew, he continued fighting and gained the name “Zornroo” – Little Killer - from the other rabbits. He kept it. As he grew, Zornroo strayed away from his siblings, preferring to play with the stronger wild rabbit kittens – he hoped he could get stronger.

He was right.

Before long, the small buck decided that this warren was not his place and he headed off.

Before long, he ran across Cowslip’s warren and here he stayed for several weeks. He knew from the start something was being hidden but figured there was no point in stressing. Zornroo had his first exposure to love in the form of a wonderful doe from the warren. He stayed near her most of the time, though no one from the outside had any clue the buck felt anything for this doe. But he believed he loved her and would fight for her til the last drop of his blood.

By now Woundwort had fallen and the stories had spread. But Cowslip never changed.

There came a day that Zornroo’s doe – the only one in the warren he allowed to address him as “Zornroo” – was chosen by the Black Rabbit to fall to the snare. And on that day, Zornroo sat beside her until the sun fell and rose once more, grieving for her. But finally, after being forced to retreat and watch the man take his only love away. All the pieces fell together then.

After this he returned to the warren. What happened there changed his name’s meaning forever: What had once affectionately meant “Little Killer” suddenly became a fearful rendition of “The Small Destroyer.”

He kept it.

After this incident he left the warren of the Snares and he found his way to a rebuilding Darkhaven, once so powerful, now reduced mostly to the old, weak, young, or mother. He stayed very briefly, learning from the Speaker of the Past, and was told of a warren beyond this one – one that was shaped in the design of the Dark One’s himself, by the paw of a fierce doe called Saxifrage.

He thanked her and headed off, meeting Vervain along the way. He didn’t know at first to hate the buck – all he knew was that this was the close consort of Woundwort, and thus brought him along, knowing he could lead Zornroo to New Efrafa. He soon learned, though, but decided this buck could do him good. Zornroo continued to keep Vervain with him and finally when he reached New Efrafa, threw the buck at Saxifrage’s feet, demanding a place in her Owsla in return for bringing such a valuable resource about the inner workings of Woundwort’s Efrafa.

Before long, she obliged, and Zornroo found himself quickly both respected and feared in the warren.

Several months into Zornroo's new position, he came across another doe by the name if Flax while escorting the blind prisoner around the warren. He wasn't sure why but this doe piqued his interest — possibly because she was Saxifrage's sister. He spoke to her during this time, knowing well this was probably not a good idea. He found himself very fond of her and, in the end, he asked Saxifrage if he could take Flax as a brood doe to ensure her future comfort, though he didn't tell Saxifrage this. 

She agreed.
