Personality: A hot-headed hot-shot. She’s a great sledding and she knows it, and makes sure everyone around her knows it too. She’s bossy, and if you don’t like what she has to say and she’s pushing you too hard, then too bad. She loves winning and is a bit of a sore winner. She brags about her achievements, though in her defense, she does work tirelessly to reach her goals. She is very determined and stops at nothing. She has to be the leader. Never the follower.

History: Chena was the eldest child of Kaltag and Esper (the light brown dog swooning over Steele in Balto 1). From a young age, she loved to run and had an interest in being a sled dog like her father was. Her younger brother Cooper also loved running, and so the two would often race each other, Chena almost always winning and never letting Cooper forget it. As they got a little older, Chena and Cooper were given to Kaltag’s musher’s twenty-something son, who formally trained them to become champion sled dogs. Both siblings did quite well, but Chena was always a little faster than her brother, and enjoyed rubbing it in his face.

    Once Kaltag and Star went out of commission, Chena and Cooper took their spots on the racing team. Balto, who had become leader after Steele ran away, was impressed with Chena’s skill, but not her attitude. He didn’t like how arrogant and full of herself she was, and often tried to put Chena in her place, but Chena never really gave up her conceited ways. In 1928, Balto left the dogsledding business, which bumped Chena up to lead dog. This only made Chena more insufferable, as she really let her new position get to her head. However, her teammates couldn’t hate her entirely; she always led them to victory.
