Build:   Naomi resembles the build of the Labrador retriever, including the shape of her ears and her soft features. Only her colors resemble her German Shepherd side.

Personality:   Naomi is a very loose, free-spirited girl, but she always keeps her wits about her. She is always up for a good run or just another adventure. Almost everything intrigues her and she’s extremely curious. She has always had a big, compassionate heart for others and can’t bear to lose the ones that she holds dearly close. It would break her heart if her owner, Sam or Duncan were to die. She loves her job as a rescue dog as she always helps as many people as she possibly can…

Markings/Colorings:   Naomi’s coat consists of a few golden browns and a dark grey. Her eyes are a Caribbean blue.

Daron and Hayley – Naomi loves her owners dearly and loves getting to help them with their research and especially loves being able to rescue as many people as possible after disasters. (She doesn’t like disasters, but she just likes being able to help afterwards…)

Sam – Sam is Naomi’s extra special brother and best friend. She especially favors him as their personalites are similar and they enjoy having fun and adventuring together. She is always depressed when Sam isn’t around…

Duncan – Naomi loves Duncan from the start as she is the one who rescued him. His injuries lead her to be extremely protective of him and have a deep compassionate heart for him. She truly loves him and raises him as if he had been her own pup. She won’t let him leave her side unless he is going with or is being watched by Sam…

Taz – Noami doesn’t know her brother Taz as closely since he spends most of his time daydreaming, but she is always captivated by the stories that he tells, even if he makes them up…

Relation to Balto:   Naomi’s brother Sam moves to Kenai, Alaska, and about half a year later, Naomi and her owners move to Fairbanks, Alaska.

History

Naomi was the third pup born and was eagerly adopted by a young couple in Montego Bay. Her new owners happened to be meteorologists and were also seismologists. Their research led them to many trips across the island, and they were usually the first to arrive when a disaster struck on the island. Naomi went on many of these trips and enjoyed herself abundantly, except that she missed her brother Sam, who she saw often. These visits were always treasured in her heart… The couple took good care of Naomi and she loved the tropical island life. The beach was her favorite place to be and she loved digging holes. Sometimes she would roll around and try to camouflage herself in the warm sand. Using her golden fur to her advantage, this was the life for her…

When her brother Sam went into training to be a police dog, she tagged along as well, though she ended up changing to train to be a rescue dog. Her owners were proud of her, and she traveled with them as they warned people of tsunamis and other disasters and did their best to rescue people after they were over.

When she was about a year old, she noticed something on the beach. It was small and sand-colored. Intrigued she went over and found a small abandoned puppy. He had a few minor injuries including that the muscles in his left ear had somehow been rendered useless. This made his left ear hang down all the time without being able to move it, while his right ear stuck up. The poor little puppy was thin and dehydrated and Naomi immediately took him to her home and helped her owners nurse him back to health. Afterwards she adopted him as her own and named him Duncan. She loved him dearly like any mother and would do anything to save him.

When Duncan was about three months old, a large earthquake rippled the island. Sam and his owner Kit had come to visit for a little while and were immediately brought aboard Daron and Hayley’s jeep as they raced around the island to warn everyone that a tsunami was on its way. Naomi shouted and barked at the dogs to get away and made sure that all of her siblings and their owners were in safe locations. They continued racing across the island as the wave pounded the eastern shore. In that instant a horrible sinking feeling hit Naomi as she realized that she’d neglected her maternal responsibilities! “I left Duncan!” she screamed to Sam as she jumped off the back of the jeep. “Naomi, wait! It’s too late! Come back!” Sam shouted desperately, but the love of a mother blinded everything except her main goal…

The first wave had already ripped through when Naomi was hit by it and slammed into a palm tree. She was somehow able to fight the current enough to get to one of the roofs nearby. From there she used all of her strength to jump to the next roof as they collapsed from the wall of water until she finally reached her house. She could hear little Duncan’s cries for help and the house was still halfway standing. Naomi dived into the water and fought the current until she was able to reach Duncan. Another wave came over and she had to break a beam in the house that Duncan’s leg was caught in. Finally she worked him free and got out of the house holding Duncan by the scruff.

Weary from fighting the current she was swept inward to other villages. In one of them, a few villagers were aboard a small metal motorboat and they came towards her. Greatful, she reached Duncan as high as she could to them and they gently lifted him into the boat. They were about to reach out again to get Naomi when a third powerful wave struck. Naomi was sucked under and hit a piece of debris hard. A small smile crossed her face as she blacked out under countless stories of water. She was at peace knowing that she had saved her family and her son, and willingly let the water and the blackness take her…

Later she awoke to find Sam, Duncan, Kit, Daron, and Hayley all crying and touching or cuddling her. Somehow she had been gently dropped by the waves before they sucked back out and she had survived. Everyone was overjoyed that she was alive and she was covered from head to foot in hugs and kisses. For her heroic acts she was given a medal of honor and bravery…

After disaster efforts were no longer needed, Naomi’s owners Daron and Hayley decided that they had had enough disasters for awhile and chose to follow Sam and his owner Kit back to Alaska. There they bought a house and research center in Fairbanks and concentrated most of their studies to the Denali Fault. Naomi still loved to go to the beaches in Alaska, and was at peace now that she could still raise Duncan and take him to see his uncle Sam when she visited, which was still quite often…
