A lot of members may have noticed recently the jump in submissions that include my fox character, "Varadan". This is due mainly to a small "competition" I've held with other members, but now I have a challenge for the rest of Balto Source: Who else will design him?

So what do you have to do? Easy: draw or render Varadan! I'd allow anything: Headshots, full-body art, and the like, but I would prefer full body art. The best part about this contest? I'll be giving away prizes to EVERY single member who sends in a submission!

That's right! All you need to do is send in a file with Varadan in it, and I will give you a prize! Here's how it's going to work:

1st Place (Drawing): Art of a character of your choice, with shading and a background

2nd Place (Drawing): Art of a character of your choice, with a background

All other Drawings: Art of a character of your choice, no shading or background

1st Place (Render): Render of a character of your choice, with shading and a background

2nd Place (Render): Render of a character of your choice, with a background

All other Renders: Render of a character of your choice, no shading or background

I will be judging submissions on three counts:

1) Creativity. I'm not looking for the best overall design, but if you just copy a pose from a drawing/render already done, don't expect too many points. Try having him jumping in the air, or interracting with Aleu (believe me, THAT will boost your chances.)

2) Correct markings. Granted, Varadan's marking ARE a little all over the place in the many drawings/renders already done of him, but here's the gist of it: get his facial markings correct, and make sure he has "socks" on his feet, in some way. He is NOT Tod from The Fox and the Hound, so try and make him look nothing like Tod.

3) Originality. Stealing other people's work is not only not cool, it's against the rules. In some states it is a CRIME. So don't do it. Similar to rule 1, be creative, rule 3 is more of common sense than anything else. Just make Varadan as YOU would make him, while staying true to his character.
