PLEASE NOTE THE NEW "WINNERS" INFORMATION BELOW THE GROUND RULES SECTION!

Here's your opportunity to envision what it would have been like to have your Balto fan character serve as a mate for one of the Nome serum run canine heroes!  Or rather, in this particular case, my fan character versions of them -- Togo and his half-brother Fritz. 

The ulterior purpose of this contest is to generate new material for upcoming fan fiction releases by me, and/or collaborative fan fiction/fan art efforts with other Balto Source participants.  This is not a traditional "mates" thing in the sense of role-playing fodder or mate talk.  Not hardly.  This of course means not only interactions, in those fan fictions, with those characters whom I decide to mate them with, but also eventual offspring (whose names and designs I would like to have input into).  Please note that though the character bios of Togo and Fritz demonstrate that, at the time they are written, both of the dogs are older, this contest and its parameters are not limited to those existing ages.  We can set their romantic and procreative experiences prior to their current profile limitations.

And that, my dear potential contributors is, in fact, the "prize" of this contest, if you will--just like several others of this type of contest.  The chance to have the mates (and/or their agreed-upon offspring) appear in an upcoming fan fiction by me, and/or a fan fiction collaboration between you and I (or fan art you wish to create, or commission someone else to do).  I am no artist, and therefore have nothing else to offer.  But if you've seen my fan fiction writing, then you'll know it should be worth it (along with the chance to have your mate paired with Togo or Fritz in some way).  My fan fiction page, for reference:

TOGO

The real Togo is one of the two most well-known canine heroes of the real 1925 Nome serum run, and my fan character pays faithful tribute to him.  The real dog fathered several litters of puppies, and through various mates which his owner, the Norwegian gold miner Leonhard Seppala (he was later a breeder, musher and racer of the original Siberian husky dogs of Alaska...a bit different from the modern-day Siberian Husky, but essentially the same breed) tightly managed.  Seppala was a strict, very selective man when it came to breeding his dogs, and wouldn't have allowed unplanned matings or pairings with just any dog.  I plan to hold to that very strictly...as much with Togo as with Fritz.  You have been forewarned.

My fan character, this anthropomorphized, animated version of Togo, is in many ways similar in personality to the fictional version of Balto as seen in the animated Balto movies.  He's got a heart of gold, and has no vices nor any really negative traits.  He's the classic "good guy".

FRITZ

The real Fritz was a half-brother of Togo, and ran with him on Leonhard Seppala's serum run team, as well as on many work and recreational runs over the years.  Fritz also had many litters with various mates over the years, and is today considered to be one of the fathers of the modern-day Siberian Husky breed.  As to whom to "mate" with him from among the Balto Source fan character set?  That will be determined in the same strict manner as with Togo, as noted above.  Once again, you have been forewarned!

My fan character, this anthropomorphized, animated version of Fritz, is something of a loveable rogue...a sharp-witted, blasé outlook, with a mild mischievous streak, defines his personality.  Though when he is hitched to the gang line of a sled team, he is all business and seriousness.  As noted in his character bio (linked above), if you think of Han Solo, from the first three Star Wars movies (particularly as seen in The Empire Strikes Back), you will have the essential personality of this dog (as well as his voice, actually).

GROUND RULES

As I said above, these will be adhered to quite strictly.  No side-stepping of them will be proffered for ANY member or fan character candidate, for any reason.  While the pairings are meant to produce fodder for fan fiction writing (including interaction with mates and new offspring characters), I will be VERY selective about whose fan characters I will decide to ultimately pair these fellows with.  No offense is meant towards anyone (or their characters) not chosen.

• Your fan character MUST be Balto-related, and CANNOT be an unrealistic "sparkle dog" or "vampire dog" or any other such unrealistic, fantastical creation.  Their design MUST be grounded in reality and at least some sense of logic.  And it MUST be a dog...not a wolf or a wolf dog (remember...Seppala was exceedingly strict and selective).

• *** Quite obviously, the candidates must be female dogs.  And they must be Siberian Huskies (Seppala's strictness again).  I probably should have specified this before, but when I said "they must be Siberian Huskies", that meant no mixed-breed dogs.  Leonhard Seppala would never have allowed cross-breeding with either other breeds or mutts...Suggen and Togo's mixed heritage notwithstanding.  Your submissions must be purebred Siberians!  Sorry guys!  Anyone who has already submitted may resubmit a different character if they wish.

• *** If you have an existing fan character which you'd like to submit for consideration, please link the character page, from your fan character gallery, in your submission.  If it is a new fan character, I would like to see it properly defined.  But new or existing, it MUST have some detail to it.  Undetailed, uncreative or otherwise boring characters will be bypassed and disqualified without so much as a second look.  Give me details: name, age, parents (if you have established this), siblings, other offspring, any canine friends (or friends that are other animals), and a history and personality sketch.

• You MUST provide some art (or be prepared to create it) for the character.  I should like to see what she looks like.  Head shot and full body shot are necessary.  Linking some existing fan art (or the character's fan page from Balto Source) is fine.  But the fan art MUST be yours, or that which you had permission to use (or commissioned another fan artist to do).  I will not accept renders unless they are exceedingly well done.  And note: I would prefer NOT to see renders.

• No art or character theft.  Any permission granted must be proven in advance.  No profanity in your submissions, and nothing offensive in either text or art. 

• My decisions on this matter are final, and I will announce them accordingly, as well as linking this contest to the existing Balto fan art topic about them (as linked above).

TO THE WINNERS GO...

(NEW INFO) I have puzzled and puzzed on this, until my puzzler was sore.  ROFL  But I have determined that, with the number of entrants, and already seeing a couple of interesting entries (and the passion which a few are devoting to this), I have decided upon the following:

1. For each dog, there will be a first and second-place contest winner.  Broken down thus:

• the second-place winner will have their character be one with whom either of the dogs (whom they selected to partner with) will have been mated with, presuming that there was involvement on the part of their human owners (Leonhard Seppala on Togo and Fritz's end, and your character's human owner on theirs)...sort of like an arranged marriage, but not (in this case, a "breeding" as humans would arrange it).  There will be no long-term affiliation.  We can presume that, even in the animated world, not every coupling between two dogs was one of pure human-style romance (or the other end of the extreme for that matter), but something that they were drawn into by their meddling humans.  lol  This will have been a coupling which will have taken place separate in time from that of the first-place winners' couplings, so as not to generate conflict between the characters, their human owners, or their real-life owners.  (This does not presume that there would be no feelings between the characters...just FYI, in case any of you are concerned.)

• the first-place winner will have their character be the lucky female with whom either dog has begun (or yet will begin) a romantic affiliation, more in the sense of that seen in the Balto cartoon movies (et. al.).  A true "mates" thing, of a more lasting nature.  Like Balto and Jenna, etc.

2. Each contest winner will be permitted to use either Togo or Fritz in their own fan art and/or fan fiction creations, but must still do a "permission to use" request on either Togo or Fritz's character page (and can do so for both characters if they wish to use both in fan creations).  Conversely, this will also give me leave to use the contest winners' dogs in any of my upcoming fan creations (and I will also do the permission request).  I make no guarantee of WHEN, or in WHAT FORM, those characters will be used.  Nor which particular fan fiction.  And please do not ask me to do role-plays.  I don't.

3. Any offspring of these couplings I expect and would like to have input into...names, design, appearance, etc.  And would "co-own".

If you find, at the end of the contest, that you have not won, please do not feel left-out or slighted.  Your participation is greatly appreciated, and I am confident that you will each make the choosing quite difficult for me!

Ummm...everyone who has submitted a character, but not designed an official character sheet on Balto Source, can you please do that? I would like to catalog them in my faves temporarily so I can reference them easier. Thanks! And those of you who haven't detailed your characters, I wouldn't suggest leaving them undetailed....that will lessen their chances significantly.
