We don't really know what decided Universal to do it, but there it is : Balto, one of the less popular animated movie, got a sequel, just like most Disney films.
It took approximately two years of work, and the Universal Cartoons Studios produced it (they are mostly known for being the animation studios behind the "Land Before Time" series of sequels, logical since the original Land Before Time was also an Amblimation movie.)
This film was intented to the video market (no theaters release, that's what we call a Direct-To-Video), and it was also aired before its release on a famous american channel, Cartoon Networks. The story follows the one in the original, several months after the diphteria disease. The complete title is Balto 2 : Wolf Quest.
Obviously, this sequel is far from being excellent like the first one, but it still has some qualities, especially for a DTV release. However, read my opinion on the film in the section "Review" for more information.
The film was released at the beginning of 2002 in the United States.

On the voice acting side of things- Not as good acting as the first film. If Aleu was supposed to be a teenager, I wouldn't have believed she was if I could only hear her voice and not her picture. Balto's voice was okay, but I did not like Maurice's as much as I liked Kevin Bacon's voice as Balto in the first film. Jenna should have been left as she was in the first film on the voice side of things.
Despite those sides of things, it was quite an enjoyable film, the story line was okay. I must say though, sorry to say this too, but Wolf Quest was my least favourite film of all the series.
Sorry to you all.

I really hope she will come back to her family to Balto, Jenna and Kodi (in Balto 4 or an other movie)
I wish they could carry this one on and bring Aleu back!

The 'Take you home' song at the start of the movie is so sweet/sad.
I almost cried, because it was so great and either so sad/ so sweet!
The songs have such a great rhythm!
And Aleu is awsome! She is so cute as a pup!
Consider me WOLF QUEST's BIGGEST FAN!
