History:

Anna Katharina was born in a little thicket alongside her twin brother Paul, who was the elder of the two by a few minutes. This was the thicket where her siblings Geno and Gurri were born, as was Bambi and his father. In the earliest days of her life she would do much the same as her father and other little fawns her age did; just play with her friends- although she tended to wander off and get distracted more often, much to the consternation of her mother. After a particulary harrowing incident where she trailed off, slipped and fell into a ditch, Anna Katharina resolved to stay much closer to her mother and Faline learned to keep a close eye on her adventuresome daughter. One morning Faline took the twins to the meadow for the first time. Anna Katharina and her brother were very excited, and when their mother called them they ran out from cover as fast as their spindly legs could carry them. As they walked over the grassy hillocks they spotted a tiny brown figure, a doe. Faline made her way over to graze and greet the stranger, when in fact it was her daughter Gurri. Faline joyfully introduced her two fawns to the new doe, and they were immediately taken with her. Until sundown that day Gurri and her little siblings romped and played on the meadow as if she were as young as the both of them again. Besides Gurri, the two fawns mostly stayed with their mother as Bambi was busy taking care of the herd while training his son Geno in the art of woodcraft. He came to visit them sometimes on quiet days, though, and the young prince and princess became very fond of their father, especially Paul who more and more wanted to spend time with him and his older brother Geno. The seasons passed quickly for the two fawns, and as Anna Katharina grew she saw her parents  and brother less often, as Faline would have another fawn again in the spring, and Paul was always busy with either Bambi, Geno or other young bucks his age. So, naturally, she took to spending time by herself and roaming the great, vast woods. She made many friends in her travels, such as Perri and Porro the Squirrels in the far northern woods, and even got to know some of her relations better this way. For instance, she often journeyed with her adopted brothers Membo and Nello, and sometimes Gurri and her mate Boso would band together with them. Over the course of time, Gurri and Anna Katharina built a lasting friendship, and Gurri even became a sort of mentor to her. Anna Katharina even found Boso to be a gentle, affable sort of fellow, if not stubborn and bullheaded in his ways at times. Membo and Nello were sometimes as alike as alike could be in their manners, but they most definitely both had their differences. However, they were both relentless in protecting their “sis”, as they affectionately called her, and at least one was always on guard when grazing or resting, should some buck be foolish enough to try and take her away. But she didn’t always have her big brothers around to watch over her, and in this way, learned to look out for herself (although she still retained her ever present clumsiness and absentmindedness.) On one such travel by herself she stumbled (literally) on a large, dark, majestic stag who kindly introduced himself as Lord Malvon and told her that he was the leader of the Silver Herd along with his mate, Lady Almond. Upon first meeting the stag face to face Anna Katharina was initially intimidated and wished Membo and Nello or even Boso were there with her, but when he treated her with gentleness and spoke to her kindly, she found that her fear almost instantly vanished and that she no longer had any cause to be apprehensive. After explaining who she was and where she was from, he invited her back to the Silver Herd’s territory to live there and she happily accepted.

Relation to the Bambi universe: is Bambi and Faline's daughter

Felix Salten created the book characters, Disney owns the film characters and original images, Pawface owns Lord Malvon, Lady Almond and the Silver Herd, JayTodd owns Tyler, Encore owns Wren and I own Paul, Anna Katharina and the renders.

Well, it IS my grandmother's name and we lived in the same house as my paternal grandparents, so I saw them a lot and always heard my grandfather call my grandmother by her name. I guess I just picked the first name that came to my mind when I overheard my parents talk about that. Amazing that they actually stuck with the idea, come to think of it. But as I said, that's just how I remember the scenario. One and a half decades have passed since then.
I am/was taking classes in Spanish/French, so I know exactly what you mean. I wasn't even that good at English until I started talking to people on the internet and, after that, writing and watching movies in English as well. (Which is amazing, because up to that point, I had no idea how amazing watching movies in their original language is. The people who do the German dubs are trying their hardest, but nothing beats the original.)

Oh, thanks. :) Really, I'm always glad to hear that. I've had English lessons since I was in third grad (gosh, ten years have passed since then...I feel old), but becoming fluent in that language was really, really hard and took a lot of patience and practice. I'm glad the effort pays off. ^^

So you mean at four you suggested a beautiful name like Katharina? Wow, I'm impressed! I was so happy when they decided to reprint some of the novels so younger generations can enjoy them now. Nothing makes me much happier than that. And yeah, my problem with learning new languages is that the grammar and everything is confusing for me, if that makes sense. I say often that I hate the english language even though it's my native tongue. XD You speak English very very well for a foreigner, by the way. Better than a lot that I've seen! :)

I don't know who came up with that idea, honestly, but I do think it was me. I was only four years old back then, though, so it's hard to tell. And yeah, I was actually quite lucky that they re-published them a two years back so I could get them quite easily. And I'm SO glad I don't have to learn German, because even I admit that for a foreigner, it must be very difficult to learn.

@MLW Aww, how sweet. ^^ I love old names, they're so pretty. That's so cool that you have the originals, especially in German. Now I need to learn German :p

As I said, it's just amusing that she has got almost exactly the same name as my sister. (It's a very old name, she's named after my Grandmother. ^^) And yeah, I know what you mean, I've got both A Life In The Woods and Bambi's Children, even in German. ^-^

Well, I named her and her brother after Felix Salten's children, so I guess that explains the German sound of the name. ^^ I actually own Bambi's Children and some of his other novels so I have them for reference whenever I like. She's based off of the one female fawn at the end of the first novel, who apparently reminds Bambi of Faline when she was young. I seperate the fawns at the end of the novel from Geno and Gurri cause of confusing continuity :p

Interesting character, I like that you have actually read the books and know what you're talking about. Just out of curiousity, did you give her such a super-German name on purpose? You know, because that's the original language of the novels? Because I am German and I find it quite interesting to see that a deer on BambiSource has got almost the exact same name as my sister. (Just that she's only named Katharina, without Anna.)
