HISTORY
Brownbush Nature Reserve
Agrill was born in Brownbush Nature Reserve, not too far from the forest where Bambi resided. He was born a member of the Brownbush Deer Herd (or the Benedictus Herd as it was also known).
From his birth, Agrill was monitored by a certain Reserve researcher, Mr Wells. Wells studied all the nature of Brownbush, but in Agrill he took a particular interest, and followed the buck's life from fawnhood to adulthood. Agrill became accustomed to seeing the researcher, watching him from a distance. He was never very afraid of humans therefore.
When Agrill reached maturity, he was the strongest buck in the reserve; he took over as leader.
''You're not welcome here!''
- Agrill to the buck Gneiss.
Despite a large number of fears he had about being the new Brownbush Herd leader, things went happily well for Agrill and his deer. That was until Gneiss entered his territory.
Gneiss was a big, strong buck from a mountainous region, who had managed to live on the Brownbush lands, undetected by Agrill, for a good long time. From the moment he finally discovered Gneiss, Agrill viewed the strange deer as a potential threat to his leadership, and was on his toes day and night, protecting his herd, his status, and generally keeping an eye on the newcomer. He never met Gneiss face-to-face - Gneiss was too elusive. Agrill's caution lasted a few months; then Gneiss disappeared, and Agrill could be a bit more at ease.
Weeks passed. One day, Agrill heard from other deer that his timid young niece, Immi, was to be mates Gneiss, and that they were together planning to go back to Gneiss' home in the mountains. Agrill was livid at the news. He tracked down the pair, and challenged Gneiss to a duel. The two bucks fought, Agrill strong but Gneiss stronger. Agrill was beaten; he stumbled away from the battle area, angry but not completely defeated. He tried his best to regain strength before Gneiss and Immi left the Reserve. Agrill quickly became fit enough to prevent the new couple from leaving his domain, just until he had enough power in him to fight Gneiss again . . .
''Well, I'll be blown away if that's a deer in the water . . . ''
-Wells.
Gniess and Immi's eventual and very sudden getaway, a few months later, caught Agrill off guard completely. They fled the Reserve one night; when Agrill found out, he went after them in hot pursuit. He separated the pair, with Immi going off in one direction, Gneiss another. Agrill kept following Gneiss, bent on another fight. And there was one. This time, the bucks were even. Agrill was not to be beaten again - he was too angry to be beaten. The two bucks fought again and again, match after match, but the bouts always ended in a draw.
Their multiple duels were carried out over a couple of days. In turns, they chased one another over large stretches of country between each match, so that by the time they were at the point of utter exhaustion they had come to find themselves far away from the Brownbush reserve, and close to the territory of the Great Prince - their last battle was fought on the same marshy land where Bambi and the Forest animals had taken refuge while the fire burned away their home. After a final draw, Gneiss and Agrill ended there and parted, both fatigued.
Agrill slowly headed for home; gradually, the realization that he had neglected his whole herd through being angry with one buck, struck him. He became worried, and ashamed of himself, and he hurried as fast as he could towards Brownbush. He decided to take a shortcut through Bambi's land, but as he made his way through the woodland, he was careless.
It had been raining heavily, on-and-off, for a few days. Agrill had to skirt around a swollen lake river to get home, but, in his hurry, he slipped and fell into the deep waters. Tired out as he reached the shore again after hard swim. However, he couldn't get back onto the bank.
For hours Agrill floated in the cold water, with only his head sticking up over the stony bank. And in this predicament he was found by a man, riding through the forest on a big chestnut horse. The man was A.L.A. Wells, on a special trip investigating Bambi's Forest to compare its fauna to Brownbush's.
''So this is how it is to be imprisoned . . . ''
- Agrill, penned, remarking to Chestnut the horse.
Wells recognized Agrill instantly, and rescued the half-drowned buck from the lake. Agrill, who was near senseless, was draped over the back of Wells' hired horse, Chestnut, and carried to Wells' camp. Wells wanted to take him back to Brownbush, but there was a long to wait before a truck came to do the transporting. In the meantime, Agrill was penned securely.
Agrill came to and foudn that he was imprisoned; it was an interesting and frightening experience for him, and something to think about. Although he knew Wells to be friendly, he was uncertain of his fate, and this made him anxious. He wanted to go home desperately. Even though Chestnut the horse was of some company, Agrill was lonely without other deer.
Weeks passed; because of bad weather conditions, the truck was long in showing up. Then finally it arrived, ready to take Wells, Chestnut and Agrill back to Brownbush. But Agrill did not know this. Before the men could get him into the truck, he got loose and made his escape. He stayed hidden in Bambi's Forest, recovering from his ordeal, re-adapting to the wild life. After a while, he felt sufficiently rested, and made off home.
''Immi! Run!!''
- Agrill shouting to his niece, on the Meadow.
As Agrill continued his way to Brownbush, he came across the hoof-prints of a doe, which he recognized to be Immi's. He also noticed that there were the prints of two fawns along with hers. Recalling that he had seen Immi pass through Wells' camp during his imprisonment, Agrill guessed she must have settled in Bambi's herd after being separated from Gneiss, and had given birth to the big buck's fawns.
Thinking he might meet Immi (and perhaps coax her into re-joining Brownbush) Agrill followed the tracks to the Meadow, where a shoot was going on. The hunters had just fired at a deer, and to Agrill's horror he saw that it was his niece Immi lying, shot, on the ground. Suddenly, Immi, apparently only grazed and thoroughly shaken, got up and started running. Agrill saw the men raise their guns again. He cried out a warning to Immi, before leaping out in front of the hunters to prevent her getting hit.
He was hit instead . . .

Thank you! I think it's just a matter of throwing in a few uncommon, quirky ideas. Maybe some moral messages, this and that. Although I'm not sure it's my most brilliant bio created . . . |
