Other information:

Personality:     At the first sight, Asante is a sarcastic, headstrong scratching-cat. And at second sight, this impression doesn’t change a bit. One actually has to take the time to get to know her to see her good sides.

When she actually likes someone, Asante is loving, helpful, compassionate and if someone ever hurt her friends, she would totally kick his butt. She doesn’t take any excuses for intentionally causing someone harm, especially if she likes that someone.

She is very independent and doesn’t take bucks approaching her too well (except of course her brother Tumaini), since she holds a slight resentment against males because the father of her daughter ditched her after a few days.

If she’s in trouble, which often happens because she is a stand-up character and never backs down from any challenge, she fights her ways out of it and rarely needs the help of her brother. She even is annoyed that he is constantly trying to protect her.

On her better days, she enjoys being around others, is talkative, humorous and can be a joy to be around. But on her worse days, she stands alone at the edge of the herd and snaps at everyone who tries to approach her. She isn’t sad or anything, she just needs her freedom.
The only one who can get her out of that state is her brother, whom she loves very deeply.

Since her daughter was born, she has a soft spot for fawns and loves her with all her heart, although she despises her father Tricheur.

Likes:    her brother Tumaini, her daughter, having someone she can trust, freedom, looking younger than she actually is, early mornings when the herd is still asleep, being independent, sometimes talking with talking with the other does

Dislikes:   most bucks, cold or wet weather, being told she can’t do something because she is a doe, that her father never was there for them, man (they constantly try to capture them), being in a crowded place, her brother being overprotective, Tricheur

Voice:    Alicia Beth Moore, better known as P!nk

History:    Asante’s family was looking forward to the birth of the new family member (little Asante) when some scientists spotted them grazing on an open space. They were quick to gather their equipment to catch the deer, since they were of a very rare species known as Vita deer, a cross breed between fallow deer and red deer.

Asante’s father quickly made a decision; he told his mate to get herself, the unborn fawn and his son to safety and ran off to distract the humans. She agreed and dashed towards the thicket, her son Tumaini at her heels. They didn’t stop for a while, until the doe was forced to stop because of her pregnancy. Tumaini found a place where they could hide and so they did. Man never found them, but Asante’s father never returned.

Although she was worried sick, Asante’s mother gave birth to a healthy baby doe a few days later. She looked a lot like her father, and although it hurt Sarafina to look at her, she gave her the name “Asante” because she was thankful that at least her fawn was okay.

Little Asante was loved by her mother and adored by her older brother Tumaini, who promised his mother that he would always protect her. And so he did; the two siblings soon grew inseparable, mostly to cause some mischief.

They were the only deer around, so Asante grew to love spending time on her own or only with her mother and Tumaini. But that aside, her first few months of life were rather happy, although she was immediately thought that for deer of her kind, it was better to stay hidden in the thicket than going out on the meadows. When they did, it was mostly at night, when it was safer.

But one night, when Sara was grazing and both of her fawns playing, Man spotted them. It was too dark to capture them in that moment, but they never let the precious deer out of sight, and in the morning, they followed them into the thicket.

Sara smelled the danger and thought quickly. The only choice they had was separating so not all of them would be caught. So she told Tumani to meet her at another place and took off with Asante by her side.

But man shot at her. She stumbled, but kept running away, but got slower and slower, until eventually, she couldn't go on anymore. She fell to the ground and looked up, her eyelids heavy with tiredness. Asante was trembling and teary-eyed.

Sara told her to run away and find her brother. Asante replied she wanted to stay with her, but Sara made her leave before she lost consciousness.

Poor Asante never found out that man had only anesthetized her mother.

She hid in the undergrowth and stayed there for what seemed like an eternity. She was confused and scared and had no idea where to go. But suddenly, she heard her brother’s voice calling her and her mother’s name. She called him with a thin voice so he could find her.

Thankfully, she snuggled up to him and told him about what had happened to their mother. He was shocked, but decided to move on and care for her like their mother had told him to. He was old enough to fend for himself and luckily, his sister already ate plants.

The siblings became wanderers, never staying in one place for too long, always searching for a place to stay where others of their kind lived. But they never met someone they could stay with longer. They avoided staying in larger herds of white-tailed or mule deer because hunters often came to these and they feared being spotted.

In the following two years, Asante grew into a rather beautiful young doe, but kept her spots due the fallow deer part of vita deer. (Fallow deer don’t lose their spots.) This kept her looking rather young and attracted many bucks of other kinds during the rut.

Tumaini chased most of them of, though, and Asante never liked the ones he let talk to her.

There was one vita buck (Tricheur), though, that seemed nice. She mated with him, but he ditched her a few days after. But she was sure she had taken, and her thoughts became truth when she felt something move inside her about two months after.

She was devastated that she had been used that way, but her brother told her that that was the usual way deer acted. He comforted her and promised to be there for her and the fawn.

In the next spring, she was grazing in a small clearing in the middle of the night when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her belly. Somehow, she knew her fawn was about to be born and rushed into the thicket. Worriedly, her brother followed her, but she snapped at him that he should go away. He was taken aback, but then realized she was about to give birth and quickly left.

It was pain to give birth, but when her fawn was finally there, she quickly got up to look at it. And from the first moment on, she fell in love with the little doe.

She named her Kya because of the shining diamond-like stars in the sky above her. While she was nursing the newborn, Tumaini cautiously approached her to check if she was okay. She was a little reluctant to let him near his niece at first, but eventually gave in.

They stayed there for some times until Kya could travel, then they moved on to find a safe place to stay.
In the following months, Asante learned what real worry was. Always when her daughter was gone, she was about to freak out, which happened very often.

Eventually, the little group made it into Bambi’s forest and decided to stay there for a while because it seemed to be safe.

She wasn’t very pleased to meet Tricheur again, though, and did all she could to keep her daughter away from her sire.
