When my secret love asked His Majesty to grant him some time alone, I felt my face take on a shocked expression. Did The Grand Duke dislike me so much now...so much that he had to literally run away from me, from the castle, from...EVERYTHING?

I watched as he stood there, uncomfortably staring at The King, requesting permission to dessert me.

The King wrinkled his nose, grimacing, as he had done in my presence a million times before.

"Oooh, very WELL," he said, gesturing, "but..." He looked at me, smiling politely, and then he returned his gaze to The Grand Duke.

"If you could be so...KIND...as to at LEAST return in time for SUPPER, I would be...most GRATEFUL!"

I watched for a reaction from my darling, my heart skipping a beat at the possibility of his truly wishing to be away from me for as much time as was possible.

Once The King had finally dismissed me, I made my way out of the castle, and I casually walked towards the garden, curious about where The Grand Duke might be.

As I walked down the tiny pathway that lay before me, I let the scent of a million roses fill my lungs, and soon my mind was perfumed with thoughts of freedom. Had The Grand Duke's quarrel with me REALLY been NECESSARY? His Majesty's TONE certainly hadn't been necessary. The Grand Duke didn't exactly need one more problem to solve, or one more nasty tone to worry about.

Without thinking, I lowered myself onto a stone bench that sat on one side of the pathway. Closing my eyes, I reached out for a perfect, pale pink rose that smiled nearby. The thorn that brushed against my hand sent a pain through my soul, reminding me of impossible love, and, at that moment, I leaned towards my hand, taking in the scent of that one rose, hoping against all fantastic hopes that The Grand Duke would find me...right there, in the garden, with that rose.

(I'm so sorry I haven't been RPing lately! I was very busy! I'm so sorry. )=)

As I walked out of the courtyards, I ran over to the garden to pick a lovely rose for Cinderella. As I came over to the rose bush, I spotted Cinderella already there! I blushed and said," Good day, Cinderella! I was just on my way to pick a rose from the rose bush for the uh...up-coming ball!" I knew that wasn't true, it really was for Cinderella, but I didn't want to admit that out loud yet.

I gasped slightly, blinking my eyes open, to gaze into the eyes of my sweet Grand Duke. I looked from the rose that was in his hand to the rose that was in MY hand, and I couldn't keep from laughing.

"Shall we EXCHANGE ROSES, Sir?", I giggled, lowering my eyelids with a suddenly shy blush, hoping that I was behaving in a manner that was more amusing than humiliating, hoping that he was not feeling either persecuted or unloved.

Looking back at him, I gingerly took the rose that he held in his hand, and I gave him the rose that I had picked.

"We might as WELL exchange THESE roses, ANYWAY, because...well, we're going to have to gather so many MORE if we're going to fill all of those VASES for the BALL!" I blushed. "They'll never miss THESE two roses, WILL they?"

As he smiled at me, I smiled back, letting my eyes take in the official smartness of his uniform, imagining events that had yet to happen. When he looked down at the rose that I had just given to him, I turned my own gaze towards the roses, inhaling the pleasant, mingling aromas that they exuded.

"They ARE LOVELY at this time of the year, AREN'T they?", I inquired, leaning towards them, so that we were a mere breath away from each other.

I could still feel his breath as he turned to walk away, and I could not take my eyes from him, although I tried to look at him ONLY when I was certain that he was NOT looking at me. The duty of propriety kept tugging at me, and I secretly felt as though I were wearing an apron, the ties of which were caught in a closed drawer.

I tried to concentrate on finding the best roses, but I finally gave up on selecting them, because the feelings, dreams, and forbidden thoughts that were filling me were so strong that I was quickly becoming preoccupied with them alone.

As I wandered through the garden, I vaguely followed my darling Grand Duke, eventually catching up to him as he bent over to stare at some peachy roses. I couldn't help but stare at him, noting how good he looked, even from the back, and I suddenly had the urge to run towards him, and to hold him from behind, but I only sighed, closing my eyes to all but frustrated dreams.

The actual words hit me like a gust of wind, and I gasped, knowing that I must look as surprised as I felt. Breathing heavily, I struggled to contain my feelings of shock and fear, and then, with a cry of surprise, I turned, and a raced back towards the castle, as quickly as my feet could take me, leaving behind nothing for somebody to find.

At the door, I turned around, seating myself on the ground, not even caring if I dirtied my seat there. With my face in my hands, I cried pitiously, without even knowing why I was crying, and, all the while, I hoped that The Grand Duke would find me, AND that he WOULDN'T come to me. Did I even know WHICH types of emotions I felt about him, or if my desires were entirely selfish? Why had that one moment felt like a clock chime, instead of being the breath of desire that it SHOULD have been?

When I returned to find my would-be darling, he was gone, and I immediately returned to the castle. Upon the instant that I laid eyes upon my husband, I ran towards him, welcoming his embrace eagerly, returning his kiss with so much ardent warmth that he stood back and stared at me, smiling luckily.

I suddenly felt unclean about my conduct in the garden, and I smiled too much at my husband, secretly resenting the gentleman who had almost been my secret lover.

Throughout the rest of the day, I ignored The Grand Duke. I smiled at my husband. I smiled at The King, and he blushed deeply upon each occasion that he smiled back at me. I hid myself against The Prince's side, cradling his arm in mine, afraid to face the reality of my fantasies, or even the reality of reality itself.

Then came supper. I smiled again and again, laughing carelessly, as though somebody had given me too much wine. I chatted with the royal couple who was visiting Prince Charming and me, and I turned away each time that The Grand Duke entered the room to converse with my husband.

Throughout the entire meal, I was becoming more and more ill at ease with myself, and my stomach was feeling heavier and heavier with drumstick chicken, potatoes, wine, and all seven of the desserts that had been prepared for my feasting pleasure.

Finally, I sighed, unable to bear one more bite.

"Please, Darling, but I MUST be excused, if...if you don't mind. I'm feeling..." I leaned towards my husband's ear. "I'm feeling less than well at the moment."

The Prince's eyes widened in genuine concern, and I actually felt sorry for him.

"Would you like me to accompany you back to the royal bedroom?", he inquired.

"Oh, I'LL be alright," I smiled, and then I looked right at the dinner guests.

"You'll have to excuse me, please, for I will have to retire for the evening." I said. "I am...feeling slightly...under the weather...I'm sorry."

The female half of the visiting couple frowned sympathetically, cooing, "Oh, I understand, my dear. Please do retire, if you must. I'd hate to see you feeling more ill for having remained at the table."

I walked out of the dining room, and when I'd reached the hallway, I leaned against the wall, holding my overly full abdomen, knowing that HE had been watching me, knowing that I did NOT wish to apologize for my earlier behavior, and that if I was going to start over, I was going to do so in a way with which I would be comfortable.

As I sank to the floor, crying softly, I could sense the sound of light footfall upon the carpet, and I wondered what I'd say if HE appeared.

Throughout the whole dinner, I had watched enviously as the Prince and Cinderella hugged, talked; all of those things a husband and wife would do.
How stupid I was, I thought to myself. I should never had admitted my true feelings for her.

Reluctantly, I walked towards my bedroom, my head spinning with thoughts; swarming around like busy bees making way for more honey. Honey... I smiled at the word, thinking of Cinderella.

Suddenly, I shook myself to reality. I sighed. Maybe I should check on Cinderella.

I padded slowly to Cinderella's royal bedroom; slowly, I crept towards her. I gulped; nervous of what she would say to me. If only... she loved me, too.

I sensed the presence of SOMEONE, and I somehow woke up in the darkness; my eyes caught sight of my husband's hair, and I sighed, both pleased and bored. Turning slightly under the covers, I came face to face with The Grand Duke, and my eyes widened in an instant! The absolute BOLDNESS of him! I would never have suspected that he could ever display so much boldness!

My shocked, displeased expression gave way to a calm smile, and then to an expression of twinkling secrecy, all within the span of a few seconds. My forbidden love turned away, but I grabbed his hand, barely paying attention to my own urgent gasp of desperation. Sliding out from underneath the covers, I kissed The Grand Duke's cheek, and then I led him out of the room, ready to enjoy the new start that we'd just been granted!

When we actually reached the hallway, I suddenly looked down at the lavish floor, and when my eyes again met those of my secret darling, I blushed, only managing to say, "I'm surprisingly hungry, my lord."

I know that this roleplay scenario was last replied to, by me, a year or so ago, but if either Elsa12, or anybody else is interested in continuing the roleplay scenario, they should feel free to do so.

If you're interested in this roleplay scenario, please consult the first page for the basic rules, but, if you're interested in portraying The Grand Duke, feel free to just say so, and you may proceed, although if Elsa12 returns, and becomes interested in this roleplay scenario again, you must either take turns with her as The Grand Duke, or your must relinquish the role to her, taking a new one, per her decision about the matter.
