Togo wrote: So, as far as I understand it's going to be in Norwegian, right? Then if it won't have official subtitles, I'm sure we can find some fan to do it and distribute them online. Yes. That particular documentary will be in Norwegian. Though there is also an American documentary in production, which will be in English. Whether or not it will have subtitles available is unknown to me. But I was honored by being interviewed for it...on camera. And that was a substantial honor, to be included with historians, experts, and Alaskan citizens. The Norwegian one, however, simply coordinated with me (and other knowledgeable people in the field, including many experts and historians) on their project, and they tell me that they will be mentioning my website on that documentary...perhaps in the credits as a research resource.

Is that video interview going to be posted anywhere? I don't know, WB. It will be the intellectual property (by copyright) of the production company in question ( http://ankerproductions.com/main/?page_id=67). However, when they have completed the DVD, I will let everyone know. It's going to be a great documentary, as they are really pulling some great people for this, and have done some amazing work with it! I have been in constant contact with the producer and his people, and some of the other interviewees (some of whom I knew before this, including some Iditarod and modern Serum Run mushers, and some historians and authors...and others whom I got to know of or talk to as a result of this). The real story is finally getting the attention it deserves...in the U.S. and, it would seem, in Norway too (where some Norwegians did have a noteworthy part to play).

This is very interesting... I really hope that they do make a movie about the real story of Balto. I know that I would go see it myself... ;3

Actually, for the documentary by API Films, which was mentioned in the post above, I was interviewed on camera, during their shooting in a beautiful apartment in Manhattan. Also interviewed were several noteworthy people with knowledge of the serum run and Alaskan history, not the least of which includes Robert Blake, the author of the children's book "Togo" ( http://www.robertjblake.com/togo.html). Robert and I had a very pleasant, if perhaps very brief (due to the constraints of the shooting schedule) discussion there, but have talked before and since that time. He's eminently-knowledgeable about the serum run, and his book on Togo, while admittedly written for children (and which he admits presumes a lot of things not in the historical record, mostly specific incidents between Seppala, Togo and the team in the midst of the run), is practically without equal in that category (children's books on historical subjects). I am looking forward to the end result, and have been in constant contact with the producer and company owner, Mr. Daniel Anker. They, like Blake, did a thorough job in their research efforts and cross-checking, and limited their interviews to persons whom they could confirm were knowledgeable (and they checked facts presented in the interviews afterwards to verify things before they were committed to the final product). I am quite proud to have been included in this! It's a real feather in my cap, and Mr. Anker asked me to also share that link provided above, and to promote it, which I will be doing for him in return for our excellent discussions, the interview, and his willingness to cross-promote my website (which is coming back up very shortly)!

And is based upon one of the most critically-acclaimed books about the serum run history, The Cruelest Miles, by Gay and Laney Salisbury. Though the Internet Movie Database page has not changed or been updated, from what is shown here, in many, many months...and I would suspect that the movie may well be in "development hell", as the industry term goes (which refers to a stalled project). There may be more information elsewhere, and if anyone has seen any, perhaps they could provide some here. But Walden Media has had historical projects fall by the wayside before (I know that because I have been an American Civil War living historian, and have seen the results of advanced release information by this company, only to see projects either fall flat, go dormant or end up being less than anticipated in the final product). But this is very old information. It's 2012 now, and still no updates have been forthcoming or hinted at.

I was just thinking: has anyone heard any updates on this? I've been looking forward to the documentary's release, but I haven't heard anything concerning whether it's even still on.
