Eryn couldn't suppress a wide grin when Ashton finally stood up to Daniel, she was so proud of him for choosing his own destiny, even though Michael interrupted her words before. She rocked back and forth on her heels, her hands wringing themselves behind her back, just out of pure happiness that Ashton, her close friend from Earth life, would be coming back with them.

Michael raised an eyebrow at Ashton, surprised his words even got through to him in the least, let alone convert him. He kept his cold expression as he stared hard back at Daniel, expecting a move, a word, a fight, something from him. He clutched the handle of his sword tightly, his eyes staring deep into him, daring him to make a move. He knew Ashton may not be the favourite of the Highness, but the least he could do was protect him here, now.

Daniel was ready to punch Ashton into next week. That... that jerk. He had taught him everything he ever needed to succeed. Being on the good side always led to your bitter end. Being bad was the only option in this world and the next. He had risked teaching Ashton this both in life and now in death. And what did he get for it? Betrayal. Figures. Ash never could handle it all. With protection from the angels, he knew he would be outnumbered. However, his rage was fueling him, and he was letting his own demon in slowly. He wouldn't flee so easy. He charged at Michael, narrowly missing his sword, and going for a slash at Ashton near him.

Ashton recoiled, receiving a bodily wound right in his side. It was a large gash, wide and open. It bled profusely, and as he turned his head to face Daniel with gritted teeth, the guy just disappeared. He had gone without a trace. Bitterly, Ashton cursed at himself. That was definitely Daniel's style: Going out with a punch. He was smart not to stay, but stubborn enough to risk an attack before he fled. Typical. And now Ashton was beating himself up, because above all he should have known. He cupped his hand over his side, acting as if the wound wasn't a big deal. Sure, it stung like crazy, but he could get over it. This torture was nothing short of perfect compared to what he'd get if he ever went back down.

At any other moment, Michael would have jumped before Daniel and took the hit himself, being responsible for everyone in his small fleet, and with it being more honourable and mature to take hits for your team. But this time, he didn't even flinch when Daniel pierced through Ashton's side. The only thing that moved were his eyes, still burning stubbornly ahead of him. Although he knew Ashton had chosen the right path and could now be redeemed, he deserved at least a small consequence for what he put himself, his sister, and his friends through. The wound would heal, Michael was sure of it, and it was but a small price to pay for everything he'd done.

Eryn quickly rushed to Ashton's aide, getting down on one knee to inspect the harsh slice in his side. "Ash.." was all she could say as she checked it over. It didn't look fatal, which was always a good sign, but it did look like it would take some time to heal. Especially since it had been afflicted by a igh-ranking demon, it needed to be cleaned thoroughly and checked even more often since it could carry some hellish parasites. Eryn got back up to her feet, tearing off a strip from the hem of her sleeve, then pressing it against the cut. "It'll heal, you just need to take it easy for a while." Then, she began to glance around. "Where's Aubrey?"

Ashton nodded, taking the strip from Eryn gratefully. He still wasn't sure if he should say anything. He just looked around him after that, trying to see where his sister had gone. His sister... he hadn't seen her for such a long time. He began walking forwards without warning, signaling with his movements rather than words that he thought she'd be this way. As he continued walking, hand pressed against hiss side witht he cloth, he finally found her, speaking with a human... Normally he would have been angry, but right now Ashton felt so overwhelmed by everything going on that he didn't even really feel anything but an overwhelming... something.

Aubrey finally turned, hearing footsteps behind her, and grinned widely. She ran towards her brother, embracing him in huge hug that must have lasted for about ten minutes before she finally released him to look at his face. As she took in his familiar features, she nearly shed a tear in happiness. However, she forced it to stay there, and saw Michael and Eryn not too far behind. "Hey guys, the human is safe." She turned back towards him and then looked towards her comrades. "His name is Sam, by the way." She smiled at Sam before turning to Ashton again and giving him another quick hug. When he began moving uncomfortably, she decided to let go. She grimaced at his wound, but a quick look at his expression made her realize that he didn't want sympathy for it. "I missed you..." Was all she managed to whisper and at that, he actually smiled.

Eryn couldn't help but grin warmly at the reunion, and it took every bit of her strength to keep from running over and hugging them both. She was aware that their whole mission was ahead of them, but it didn't mean they couldn't celebrate at least a little bit for this victory. But the day was coming to an end, and the sun would set in about an hour, leaving them with nowhere to go. Sure, their Lord would provide, and Eryn had full faith in that, but the lingering worry that they may be sleeping outside that night still haunted her thoughts.

Sam breathed in a sigh of relief when the others turned the corner, seeing everyone was safe. His mind was still swimming with confusion and was jumping to conclusions, but when his eyes laid on Ashton's wound his large eyes went even wider. He hesitantly took a step forward. "What happened?" he asked quietly, not wanting to disturb the brother/sister reunion too much.

Michael followed at the back of the pack, his hand still clenched around his sword handle, as if Daniel could reappear at any moment. Which, he could. His expression had softened somewhat, but still kept the noble look he always possessed in his eyes as he followed, still glancing backwards every so often. Time was of the essence, and they had already wasted enough time on one silly fight while their entire mission still lay before them. Sam's question, even though it may have surprised him by the suddenness, was to be expected. "Just a minor wound." he answered, not giving anything away. "It will heal."

Sam bit his lip and continued to glance at everyone's faces, then back at the gash. "It looks like it'll take some time, though.." he stated. "Do you guys have anywhere to go?"

When the moment finally faded away, Aubrey turned to look at the others with apprehension. She had no idea what was up ahead and the tension between everyone was getting too close for comfort. She watched as her brother walked a bit past Sam without a second glance. Normally, she would have thought it to be rude for him not to show eye contact, but since she knew him and she had seen his abilities and the demon he held, it was most likely killing his every instinct not to tear into his throat. The very thought sickened her straight to the stomach and heart, but she knew in her mind it was true. "Some shelter would be nice," She said, turning to Micheal in case he decided otherwise.

Ashton nodded, and noticed that Sam was still staring at his wound. "Don't worry about it. It's not a big deal. Like he said," His eyes glanced at Michael briefly before flashing back to Sam's face. "I'll be fine. It'll heal." Of course he was wincing inside, but he had come to the decision now that he had to go through it. And he knew now in his gut, as scary as it must have sounded at first, that he and Michael were on the same page.

In response to Aubrey's request for someplace to stay, Sam nodded eagerly, still looking worried and confused. "Of course, I mean, if any of you don't mind staying at my house, it's no mansion, but it's something, and there's food and a bathroom and I'm sure my mom won't mind.." Although his mother would be staying in bed, he was sure she wouldn't mind him helping out a small group of people.

Michael nodded briskly to Aubrey, giving his consent. He knew it could be dangerous to allow Ashton to sleep so close to them, what with his inner demon and all, but the tolls of being sent to Earth and feeling tired and hungry for the first time since any of them died was overwhelming them. He could probably stay up through the night, since he had gone through rigorous training to become an archangel and would surely be used to it.

Sam began to stutter again, feeling nervous and now responsible for their safety, at least for the night, and still completely unaware of who -and what- they were. "It's really not far from here, I-I can cook to some extent..."

Aubrey, now fully content for the moment, turned back to Sam with a huge smile breaking her lips. Not only was she sent back to Earth with a new mission to accomplish, but she had gotten her brother back, and now she got to have the chance to find out more about this human that interested her so much. It was the best day since well... she couldn't really remember. Being in heaven, you tend to forget which day was your best. Now felt pretty sweet, though.

"Oh that's fine. We can cook, if anything." Her smile broadcasted brightly to Sam, and she felt the lightest blush tint her cheeks. Turning away quickly, she went over to Michael and Eryn and whispered anxiously yet composedly, "Should we tell him? Since he saw the... you know, wings and all? And he's helping us?" Despite how serious she sounded, Aubrey was bursting at the seems on the inside. She needed someone to divulge her secrets to, and she felt so bad for leaving Sam in the dark with all of this.

"No." Michael replied to Aubrey sternly, but calmly. "Not yet, anyway." he added. Thus human may be helping them, and even if he had the slightest suspiscion, revealing themselves so soon was be dangerous and could possibly ruin their mission. Michael's gaze didn't waver, and he knew that letting their most prcious secret loose to some stranger could be fatal to the mission, themselves, and possible all of Earth if that information fell into the wrong hands. They were supposed to be there undetected, besides that fact.

Eryn bit her lip, knowing Michael probably knew best and it was better not to argue with him, but this human did seem trustworthy for the most part... she knew it was foolish to think, but seeing Aubrey this happy simply made her heart melt with happiness of her own.

Sam couldn't help but smile at Aubrey; her smile sure was contagious, he thought. She had such a beautiful smile. He grinned and motioned for them to follow him. "My house is just down this road a bit." he stated, taking a step backwards in the direction his house was, knowing his mother and little sister were probably wondering where he was by now.

Although Michael's answer dampened Aubrey's spirits at first, she quickly let the disappointment fade. She wouldn't let her happiness get away from her so fast. Hearing Sam, she quickly trotted over there with her smile pasted back on. She grabbed her brother, Ashton's hand, and with a surprised look on his face as she pulled him behind her, continued following the human she had just met. She couldn't help but stare after him. Although she tried not to make it noticeable, she kept sneaking glances here and there when she thought Ashton wasn't looking. Which, truthfully, he almost never was.

He seemed preoccupied with something else, constantly staring out into the sky, to the sides, and sometimes in front of them. His mind was obviously distant. She couldn't blame him after what had happened just a few minutes ago. Hopefully he would get over it, though. Somewhere in the back of Aubrey's mind, there was indeed a not so foolish thought. That perhaps her brother hadn't truly changed and could quite possibly be working against them. As much as she'd hate to admit that creeping suspicion in the back of her brain, no one can escape what their own thoughts are telling them. It was beyond her control. What she could do, however, was just enjoy the moment. And for now, since everything was so chill and neutral, and they would get to hang out at Sam's place, what could possibly go wrong?

However, Aubrey should have known better that the answer to that question was never a good one.

Sam walked at the front of everyone, glancing over his shoulder every so often to make sure they were still following. Not that he would mind if they had another place to go, but it sort of made him feel more important, and helpful that he was giving them a place to stay. He also liked to sneak a peek at the girl who he'd met first; he's been so confused and flustered before that he barely noticed the full extent of her beauty... he couldn't help to admit to himself that he thought she was indeed strikingly beautiful, as was the other girl and the two boys, but there was something about the one girl... "Do you feel comfortable telling me your names?" he asked out of the blue, realizing he didn't even get the chance to ask before.

Eryn smiled and replied warmly, "My name's Eryn." She figured any human would have made up a fake name, but being warriors of Heaven they'd sworn themselves to the truth. Besides, he was only a human passerby, what could he do with simply the knowledge of their first names?

"Michael." he answered solemnly, his eyes giving nothing away. "I am Eryn's older brother." he added formally, deciding it was okay to divulge just that bit of information.

Aubrey watched as her two friends gave their names. "In case you don't know already," she said in a cheerful tone, "I'm Aubrey." The smile she had still curved and tugged at her lips. As hard as she tried to get rid of it, it refused to leave. So instead, she decided to embrace it. Noticing that Michael had told Sam about Eryn and him behind siblings, she thought perhaps it would be okay if she mentioned her own. "And Ashton's my older brother," she added, tugging him and bringing him in for a noogie. Ashton almost recoiled at a sudden touch again, but seeing it was his sister, he stayed put. She laughed quietly, her eyes sparkling and just for a moment, making Ashton forget about everything bad that had ever happened to him or anything evil he had ever done. Just for a moment.

Sam laughed a little at Aubrey's playfulness. "Well it's good to meet all of you." he said politely, a smile tugging at his lips. He turned around to face front again, spotting his small apartment in the distance. "There's my house." he said, pointing to it. He was about to shield his eyes from the sun, but he hadn't even noticed that the sun had already begun to set, the sky flushing into royal purple and seashell pink.

Aubrey followed diligently behind Sam, looking back herself to see Michael and Eryn every now and then. She was still pulling Ashton behind her, and for the moment he didn't seem to be putting up any fights. That was good. Her head swiveled towards the building in front of them, and suddenly Aubrey was whisked away by memories long since forgotten. Her old human home... where her mother and father had brought up her and her brother. The place where all the arguments and mushy moments took place. Where a family could never forgive each other one day and yet be laughing and grinning with delight the very next.

Tears were close on their way, but Aubrey refused to allow them to shed. She held them as best she could, which seemed to be working for the moment. Nothing could spoil the raw goodness of this day. All the problems and regret could come tomorrow.

Sam led the group up to the door, the white paint of which had been peeled away to reveal the orignial, musty brown colour. He began to reach for the golden doorknob, turning his head to say, "Come in." as he opened the door, receiving a loud groan and creak in response. A wave of dust and the smell of cat litter hit his nose, just as it always did when he arrived back home, and he began to wonder what these people would think if they saw his home wasn't exactly in tip-top shape. He across the doormat that read "Wipe Your Paws" and started up the stairs to his apartment.

Eryn entered the door after Aubrey, since Michael insisted with a nod that she go in before him. The floorboards squawked at her every move, and the smell of animals and rotting wood brought her back to when her and Michael would play in the backyard as kids, with the trees and small creatures darting around the edge of the woods behind their house.
