As soon as Aubrey entered the room, wood and the smell of home invaded her senses. All around her, it was as if she could feel the living. After taking a check around the entire house with her eyes, she resumed watching where Sam was going. She hadn't been alive for such a long while, she had forgotten what it was like. She nearly scoffed at the fact that she needed guidance for what to do. Did angels even sleep on Earth? Sleep wasn't something Aubrey remembered needing back in heaven. In fact, she only remembered gliding through the night skies, feeling the wind in her hair and the breeze course through her like lightning.

Ashton's experience was quite different. He never slept, of course, because in hell you're always awake for the torture. He never saw the sky perioud. All there was were flames and darkness, evil laughs and tables made for blood to shed. When he had first arrived, they tested his worth by strapping him to an alter and throwing knives into his skin. It seared, it ached, and he desperately wished for it to stop. Years passed by and still he continued to stay on that horrid table, until finally he learned to resist the pain, and they saw the potential he had in becoming a great demon. Now, he was unsure what to think. Being in a home again made him feel unnervingly tight. He was becoming way to uneasy for comfort, and the smell of humans and blood through their veins didn't make things any easier. He stopped a bit behind Aubrey, closing his eyes in an attempt to steady his demonic instincts. He needed to try and be good. If he failed, so be it. Another century of misery. But he needed to try...

Sam bit his lip and walked farther into the apartment, the floor moaning in response to every step. "Mom?" he called before walking up the stairs and into the small living room. He crossed it hastily, through the tiny kitchen and into his mother's room. The door was closed, so he cracked it open a little bit and peeked inside. She was asleep. He gave a small sigh through his nose seeing his little sister cuddled up beside her, also fast asleep. He softly closed the door again, crossing the kitchen and back into the living room, then halfway down the stairs. Sam leant over and nodded to the group of angels, letting them know it was okay to come up. "My mom and sister are both asleep. Don't worry though, they're both hard to wake up." he managed a small grin.

Ashton finally gathered most of his composure and followed after Aubrey and Sam again. He needed to be honest. He couldn't keep holding all of this in himself. He knew that his sister was the only one who could understand and try to comfort him. "Aubrey?" He whispered, tapping her elbow lightly. She turned expectantly, a smile pasted on her face. That almost made Ashton recoil. He hadn't seen his sister smile in so long. And then he was reminded of her innocence... that smile made her look the same way he last remembered her. It hurt him to the bone. All the way down to the unmangled parts of his soul... he was supposed to be the one in control.

He was supposed to comfort her, not the other way around. He was older. He should have known better. All the facts stung at him like poison. The pain was clear in his expression, but he tried his best to get rid of it. Ashton finally took his hand off his wound. Although it was still open and the fresh air was coming in like a vent, he ignored it. At least the blood wasn't dripping too much anymore. He wouldn't make a mess on the floor, if nothing else. He hesitated, but eventually got out the words. "I don't feel right."

Aubrey took some time to consider before answering. She whispered softly, but the way a sister would: loving, encouraging. "That's normal... you've spent so much time away." She wasn't sure Ashton would get her necessary meaning. It could mean different things to different people. But if he was still the person she once knew as kind, thoughtful, and an amazingly good brother, then he would understand. He'd spent so much time away from good... from what was right in the world. And Aubrey had missed him dearly. To her surprise, he understood immediately and nodded, still following dutifully behind her.
