Steet, there are services that will submit your site to directories for you. Asking people here to do it for you is a bad idea. Most might not know how to find directories, let alone use them. As webmaster, you yourself should be doing the work of promoting your site in said fashion.

What you can ask is for people to simply post links in their blogs and sites.

And don't underestimate the effectiveness of spreading word locally. If your host offers logs, especially awstats, you can use them to your advantage to see how and where most visitors come from.

Yes, and they either don't work or you have to pay for it.

I still do it, but I would like to spend more time programming new features than just promoting it...

But most visitors don't do it...

Oh yes : 60% are coming directly (bookmarks probably), 37% are coming through search engines, and...only 3% are coming through links posted on other sites!

I've used one before. If you've submitted to them, they don't post immediately. It's a very time consuming process.

I added a link to BS on the wikipedia article for Balto.

I hope this'll at least get some new members to the website.

It helps a little, I can see it on the statistics.
But the wikipedia editors always remove it from the page. (although you can add it back again if that happens I really don't see why the imdb page should be more accurate than this site...or even any Balto site in fact)

Well, I added the link like, half a year ago and it's still not removed. I linked directly to the Balto information page, though, so that may be why.

AND because you didn't put it first in the list. But then, there are much less visitors trying this link than when it was first. (same thing you encounter on Google, 90% of the visitors never click on the sites that are ranked more than the 3rd position)

No, it really is the positions, not the pages. I saw a graphic where they showed how much the visitors clicked on the links. Places behind 5th position are nearly useless...(unless it's a very popular search)

hmm I just had an awesome idea, well every school has a home page right? and they always have a section about the school, students and what not, but they also have a childrens section where there is almost always links to very good kids sites, so im going to talk to the schools I went to around here and see if they will premote this site on there home page this way the students will see it and take a look, resgister and like anything in school it will spread fast and its interesting how you mentioned this because I was asked awhile back to search for kids sites to be added to the schools main sites for the students to have fun without worry of dangers or having to add proxys everywhere and since this site is ment for children they wont have to ******* it.

It will make a great fan base and for it to become more popular and im pretty sure I can get three schools from around here to sponsor this site and have it placed on there main page, no promises though and I will go to other sites and groups and try to get there intrest in this.

Theres alot of kids at schools so I think anyone who goes to a school that goes up to grade 9 should talk to there teachers about this and if it works then well it should boost this site alot cuz kids love and need more sites to go to and teachers want them to be safe aswell and schools well jackpot hehehe not to mention most schools allow student groups aswell so there is another good option.....
