You can help getting backlinks. A backlink is a link to this site posted on another.
The more backlinks a site has, the best it is ranked on search engines!

A great way for getting backlinks is by submitting the sites on directories. There are billions of directories on the web, so that's why I'm asking for your help : I don't have time for doing it entirely myself, as I prefer to focus on more important things.

If you wish to help, just follow these instructions!

Basically, all you have to do is going to a list of free directories, for example this one :

Then choose a directory "by random", and submit the site information on it. (most of the time, go to the category where to add the site, then look for a link at the top or the bottom of the page that says "add a site", "suggest a link" or "submit")

Here's the information you need to submit (copy/paste them, most directories ask for the same things) :



A few instructions :

- Only submit the site on free directories, of course! (most of the time, choose "Basic submission" or "Regular link". If you choose directories from the list I've given, you shouldn't have this problem though.

- If the directory absolutely need a reciprocal link, don't bother - I will not splatter links on the whole site just for them...

- Don't bother searching if the site has already been submitted, if you choose the directories by random it's unlikely and would take more time than submitting it. Better do it twice than never anyway. One exception is for Dmoz, which is the best known directory and I've already submitted BS and LKS there.

If you could make some searches, and find sites which go well with the sites subjects (other Balto or TLK sites of course, but also wolves, sledding, lions, jungle, etc...), tell me and I'll see if I can get a partnership with these sites. (especially for famous ones) This would help even more!

Some of you said they would help, but did you really? I didn't get any email, while I should have got some if you had registered the site in the directories.
Anyway...I have something more to ask for.

Ok, that's a good thing, of course. (and I encourage everyone to do the same)
But it's not exactly what I asked in this topic.
So, why is no one doing it? Do you not understand what I ask? Are you just lazy, or lack of time? Or just not interested? I just don't really understand why everyone seem to want to help the site, and when I offer a chance to do it, no one really takes it.

I'll have a go at putting some up, I don't have much time though so I may not get that many but I'll sure try for ya!

Mhm...a lot of those sites you have to pay for.
Most ask for a "Reciprocal (sp?) link" to be added in the page and I dunno what that is...0_o

And, a reciprocal link is a link that I would add on Balto Source to their directory; but I don't accept this, because the directories are not really related to the site, and I don't want to splatter a lot of links on the site just for that; so if they are requiring one, let it down (just check that it's necessary or not, sometimes there's a field but it's not required, just try leaving that field empty)

Another one who didn't read the topic...
Why do everyone think that the only way to promote something is to do it locally? I didn't ask to talk about it to your friends (even though it's a very good thing too, don't mistaken me), and I believe it would be much more easier to "spread the word" on the web...
