It was suc a clever idea to turn the real characters into characters on here, it certainly makes a difference among the sparkle-dogs Thank you so much, Sardy! Yes, both of us put a great deal of effort into this! Malwolsky wrote: I really like how you based characters off of the dogs from the serum run team, especially since I didn't even know how Togo and Fritz looked in the first place until I saw this. I just have one question: I know these aren't the only dogs that ran on this team, but are these the only dogs that had pictures with them so you could base the characters off? I was just wondering. Great collaboration you guys! XD Thanks, Malwolsky! It was an effort to bring the heroes to light in a way that Balto movie fans could appreciate. Actually, there are photos of both teams, and various dogs on each. Would you like to see examples?

THIS is how you Fan Character! I love them all. :'D This. These are wonderful, Jersey. So informative, and I love how you stayed so true to the original characters and their histories. Cat did a fantastic job on the artwork too.. I love how full of personality and character they look. C: You both did an awesome job bringing the characters to life, well done! I'm very impressed. <3

I have to admit what I have seen is absolutely, without a doubt in my mind, be-au-ti-ful! Ha, ha!! No, but seriously, JC, Cat, you have done an excellent job with this. Now this is the kind of thing we should be having as far as fan characters are concerned. This is the kind of stuff that SHOULD belong. I tip my hat to the both of you as well *tips her hat*

C: You both did an awesome job bringing the characters to life, well done! I'm very impressed. <3 Thanks so much, Rebs! I felt the old fellows deserved it. And it serves my purposes in the end for fan fictions! But I am gratified about how popular they have become in so short a time! Sora-Kun wrote: Aw man you have no idea how absolutely bowled over I am. You and Cat came together to really make it not only fanciful enough to fit in the cartoon Balto universe, but stay true to the real story.
Hats off to both of you, this is really something neat. Thanks very much, Sora! Yeah, Cat really pulled me out of the fire on this, and did a stunning job! I tip my hat to the both of you as well *tips her hat* That's very nice of you to say, Brown Wolf, and I appreciate it very much. I hope my efforts, and the excellent work Cat did for me, will inspire more realstic characters (fictionally-based or otherwise), and less, er...sparkley-poofy stuff. ROFL Wolf_Bassist wrote: "Very impressive!" was my initial reaction upon seeing the work on display here. It's no different now, and I don't think it'll be any different months after this post is written. Leave it to JC to know how to mix the realms of the real Balto and the animated Balto into one package. And the tradition continues with these new fan characters. I shall keep my fingers crossed, Wolf_Bassist! Time will tell. lol Well, you know me...if I were going to do a fan character, it would invariably have connections to the real past! lol Of course, I do have a couple of completely fictional characters posted, and more coming! But I may yet do more historical ones as well!

Okay, Malwolsky...here (for you and any others who may be interested) are photos of the dogs of Togo's team, and of Balto's (all of which were owned by Leonhard Seppala, and kenneled by him at his Little Creek Kennel just outside of old Nome). Sorry if some of these are a little on the big side...I wanted to give you guys the chance to see as much detail as possible. Keep in mind that the names of most of these dogs have been lost to history. Only a few are known by name and appearance - Togo, Fritz, Balto, Scotty and Fox. Additionally, there are no color references of any of these dogs. It is only known that both Fox and Scotty were primarily black and white, with some brown coloration mixed in. 1. Togo and members of Seppala's serum run team posing for a photograph some days after the run. Fritz is the fourth dog from the left (first set of swing dogs). And peeking over the back of the dog standing behind Fritz is Scotty, one of Seppala's other famous dogs (who sometimes served as a lead or swing dog...and was mistakenly thought to be a co-lead with Togo during the serum run). Seppala's serum run team had twenty total dogs in it (which begs the question of whether or not Togo was counted in that number, as he was said to run singly on a long, loose lead ahead of the team). 2. Another shot of Togo and members of the team (the same photo seen on page one of this topic). The dog staring off the left of the photo is most likely Fritz. 3. Some of the members of Seppala's serum run team. Fritz is at lower left, and Togo stands above the rest. 4. Togo and some other dogs from Seppala's kennel (who may or may not have been on his serum run team...the dog second from right most likely was, as seen in other photos. Togo is on the left). 5. Seppala with Fritz (at right) and two other members of Sepp's kennels, during the 1926 American tour. 6. Scotty who, as mentioned above, was one of Seppala's other experienced leaders and swing dogs. He was black, white and brown. 7. Balto's team on Front Street in Nome the day of their arrival (February 2nd, 1925). Strangely, Fox is not visible in this photograph. The team numbered 13 total dogs...with Balto running a single lead. Only six other dogs were known by name, and only one has ever been identified in photographs - Fox. 8. Gunnar Kaasen, musher of Balto's team, along with nine of the thirteen members of the team. Balto is second from left in the upper tier of the rack behind Kaasen, and Fox third from left (next to Balto). This was probably taken sometime during the shooting of "Balto's Race To Nome", or the vaudeville tour of the U.S. in 1925. 9. Kaasen and, again, nine members of his team. This was probably taken during the vaudeville tour of the U.S. in 1925. Balto stands next to Kaasen (at his right), and Fox two dogs over, looking at Balto. 10. Fox, Gunnar Kaasen, Balto, an unknown man and unknown dog (probably a member of Kaasen's team). This was probably taken either during the filming of "Balto's Race To Nome" or sometime during the vaudeville tour of the U.S. in 1925.

The only reason he looks like that is because of the light shining down on him. It makes his fur look like it's red, but in reality, when not under light, Balto's fur color was black.
