The bright lights of the museum faded his fur. If Balto was to be brown, the photos would come out as gray, not black.

sibelover, I suggest you talk to a museum curator about what light and humidity can do to exhibits. Even taxidermy. And then I suggest you take a much closer look at the life photos of Balto.

Bad care of his mount resulted in it being in rather bad shape and, as Mighty said, faded.
You're welcome to do what JC did if you like and ring the museum; ask them if he was always brown or he was actually black when he was alive. xD

Well, incidentally, if anyone would like to see ol' Togo, and his half-brother Fritz in action in a fan fiction (along with my version of Dingo and also his daughter, Belle), feel free to read my fan fiction "The Passing of Togo" (/balto/en/view_fanfic/Passing_of_Togo/52293.html). It's an epic adventure...and from what I have been told by those who have read it (and posted comments), it's a real tear jerker.

This fan fiction practically wrote itself (I was very lucky then...stuff doesn't come to me as easily as this one did...especially in the last two years). I think that something eternal remains of Togo and Fritz (I know I know...it's just how I feel though)...and they may have had a little influence there.

A little thing about Fritz's face makings. If you look at the photos you see his face appears as dark as his back and the face marking is different than one you gave him.

Photos of what? His unkempt dead body? xD Not exactly the best references I've used. I based him more off his live photos.

Been a while since I was able to post in here, but I am glad to see there is still interest in Togo, Balto and Fritz! Recently, there have been many new comments on the characters' pages on Balto Source, and I am glad for the activity here as well. Thanks, guys!

I do plan to do more with the characters, and I appreciate that there are those who have requested permission to use the characters as well. Though I would like to see how they are being used, of course. As anyone would. I see some art, though in a few cases the artists did not make reference to it being my character. It's a small thing, perhaps, but I did request it. I made a polite request of those specific few cases for resolution. As with any character owner, it is an important matter to me. Hope everyone understands that.

@ Sakujo: I am singularly impressed by your desire to be strict about the art of Fritz. Certainly his facial markings are a bit more complex. But this is still a cartoon drawing. I didn't ask Cat to make a completely mark-for-mark recreation. Just to get as close as she could. Neither Fritz nor Togo (especially) are easy to recreate. Their markings are complex in some places, and very subtle in others. Cat is an excellent artist, and I am sure she did her best.

But thanks for bringing it up!

I suppose this is not exactly or entirely on-topic, as it does not involve either Balto, Togo or Fritz (my three real serum run-based characters), but I did mention my characters Dingo and Belle. And CatWhoHas14Tails has created three pieces of art for the character, two of which she has used in subsequent fan art of hers (altered just a bit in each case)...but which she said was first used to create the art for my character! heh heh
