I completely agree. I have seen many people accuse one person of stealing art that does not belong to that person either.
I think that only the victum can accuse. Say it was already settled, then someone brings it up again. And I think if your going to accuse, pm the person who may have stolen. I don't think anyone would want a comment in thier gallery saying something like "Ooooooo you stole _________'s art! Everyone look! Here's a link to the original pic!" that wouldn't make anyone feel good. It would be there for everyone to see, to think bad at you, and to make no one like you.
Also, I have been drawing more.......uniquie positioned drawings lately. Sooo, I might get banned because someone before me might have drawn them? If that does happen, the original artist should pm the person first, lets not get hasty! So as to get it settled, and change the title and discription for the drawings. This is my opinion. Other than this, Cat, I agree with you.

If I may add to this.

I agree with both Cat and Steet...BUT

Keep in mind that there might be the rare chance of someone making and thinking they are doing a completely original artwork when in fact it has the hint of someone elses. Can only get so many angles of a wolf or husky. With 50-100 fanarts everyday, any new angle is welcomed...but probably rare by now.
LOL, I try to remain as original as I can, trying to incorporate dragons, industry, or trains in someway with a wolf.

I only say that to in a sense save myself...if that day dare does come, I dont go through every single artwork on this site just to make sure Im not doing someone elses idea. I would dislike someone if someone copied one of my artworks, I would hate that feeling if it was myself thats done it. Kind of like stealing from your coworkers...its something you just dont do.

I agree with the screenshot that Cat mentions, the only problem with that is, is this. Universal did practially about every angle Balto could be put in. Well, the rated G ones, and lets not go there. So to remain 100% legal, I guess one couldnt draw Balto...since he is the property of universal! :(

Oh well, reality is setting in! Time to draw something...not of Balto...I guess.

wow

Chill out with the poses. Of course it's a stealing if your "art" is a clearly trace of someone's artwork, but you cannot copyright a pose...
For example running is a natural thing and if you see two arts of running wolf in the same pose it doesn't mean one of them is a trace of another.

I don't think it's wrong if you get inspired by someone else's pose, but You need to credit them for....

1. inspiration
2. Style
3. reference
4. possibly practice
5. if possible, ask them if you can practice drawing there pose.

I know many people will think this is a lot just for a pose, but it's not, those original images are awesome, they should NOT be stolen!

...I'm sorry, but is that not what rendering is? Tracing someone else's artwork? XD

Rendering isn't tracing someone else's artwork but re-making a screenshot in the Balto style using characters. Or making interesting new scenes by rendering over the characters and putting them into a new image. Like using references to create and image, similar to that anyway.

FanArt is very different though. And you cannot "steal" somebody else's character pose, dogs' and wolves can make similar poses. Not EVERY single pose is going to be different. It's inspiration and liking to a pose that makes artists want to use a similar pose. But if it really effects the original creator that much, then ask for permission before creating a drawing using a similar pose to the original.

And to add to that, whom ever said that you cannot "copyright" a pose is correct. And, if only more members actually bothered to read the fanart rules before posting, we wouldn't have some of the commotion we have today.
Art "Theft" is claiming something or using something that is not yours, and posting it as yours, whether in your fan image/fan art galleries or for your characters detail and head shot pictures on their character pages. It isn't tolerated and we shouldn't be seeing SO much of it here on the Balto Source, but more rightly, the whole of Animation Source, because I'm sure Art Theft is not just seen on Balto Source, but also some of the other sources.

^Ah, but the screencaps ARE someone else's artwork. Someone had to draw them. The artwork belongs to the Universal animators. XD

You're right about the poses, though. -nodnod-
