If you didn't notice yet, I've done something, like a compromise.
I've added a javascript warning when you try reading a PG+ rated fanfic.
This way, no one will be able to say that "I didn't see the rating warning".

good idea steet. and i think people should be able to write what they want- up to a certain point. as long as they dont turn into something like very explicit things like something out of penthouse forums or something. (i dont read them but i have seen them)

That's the problem with censorship. It turns into nothing more than one party telling the other what to think and say.

I certainly didn't advocate censorship. I said there are appropriate places for this stuff. Still, Steet's resolution is a compromise. It is not what I would have liked to see, but it is a compromise.

Man, do you really have THAT many people criticizing your writing that you have to have such a defensive attitude? What kind of stuff must you be writing even outside of this site that you have developed such a demeanor? :?

Thanks a lot steet! This should solve many of the problems concerned here.
There's no way to ignore the rating now!

And by the by, if anyone still gets flamed, please tell a mod (either me or one of the others) so we can fix the problem. Thanks.

I'm confused as to where you keep seeing these 'rules' you're talking about. What rules?
And where did your mention of censorship ever come from? There's very little if any of that on the site and forums.

Rozalyn, calm down please. Everyone has the right to speak his or her mind. You needn't insult BaltoSepalla or his ideals.
BaltoSeppalla... You seem to be part or more and more arguements. I don't know if they're you're fault and frankly I don't care. Please find a way to peacefully resolve conflicts outside of topics.

I'm so tired of finding another arguement every time I check this topic...

I may be new, and just coming into the conversation, but I think, as many others have said, that this is a family-oriented site. But, if you really feel you should continue posting PG+ rated fanfics, then okay, no one's stopping you. This site was intentionally made for the Balto movies, and only the Balto movies, besides the fact of meeting people who like the same things as you. Balto is basically a kid movie, and the others are as well. Though there is an entertainment value that adolescents and adults enjoy as well, it was designed for a child audience. Thus proves and supports my point and point of view.

I'm not trying to flame, and I don't want anyone to think that. However, I do debate a lot, it's just in my nature. As far as BaltoSeppala's ideas go, true I called some of them stupid, but then again, he hasn't exactly been sugar- coating words either. But this is going nowhere, and now I going to stop, what we should be thinking of now is some suggestions for a compromise.

Wow, I didn't think THAT many people would refer to my mom.
I for one think I'm lucky to have a mom like that; but she isn't TOO protective-I can watch Austin Powers (everyone else I know at school can't). I'm not even allowed to watch rated R films, not that I would want to watch rated R movies..they scar me for a loooooooong time. I CAN take a little violence (in fact, I have 2 fanfictions that will be rated PG-13 when I post them).

:salut: I'm working on that, Lone Wolf. And believe me, I realize that I am guilty of getting defensive when my opinions (which I have mostly stated to BE opinions) are attacked by over-emotional and defensive teenaged members of the site. I have, after all, stated previously that I do feel that everyone has a right to write what's in their hearts.

The only point of contention with me is that those fictions are here on this site. I speak in defense of decency and younger readers (and the honor of the original dogs and people of the Serum Run). Those who complain most, about what I or others have said about this subject, carry on about their "rights" being trampled, and how there are no standards or rules to good writing, which is total b.s. I spent YEARS in high school and college (and after) learning about and refining my writing, and learning from REAL PROFESSIONAL WRITERS. For people like TikTac to claim there are NO rules to writing is utter fantasy. And further, NO ONE is saying that they shouldn't be posting them ANYWHERE ELSE (well, I'M certainly not).

Steet offered a compromise, which I also pointed out as acceptable (if perhaps not preferable). Steet's done a lot of hard work trying to make that happen, and I salute him for it. But I didn't set out to flame or create arguments here, Lone Wolf. I think you can see that. I was trying to bring some semblance of logic and reason to this forum, and also be a hardline defender of the "kid-friendly" aspects of this forum. I don't believe that the rights of writers supercede that. And for that, I will not apologize or make excuses.

It was my point of contention that was attacked. And I responded. Because I don't believe in just ignoring attacks. Especially when nothing's done to stop them. People have heard the saying "if you give them enough rope, they'll hang themselves." But there is another half to that saying that almost NO ONE either hears or refers to. And that is "But if you give them too much, they'll turn around and hang YOU."

That is my philosophy. And it is how I conduct myself here.

A person almost HAS to, the way the forums in total are sometimes (and sometimes selectively) moderated. That's not a dig at you, incidentally. I do see you as one of the fairest and most judicious moderators this site has. And that's a good thing!

I know you're trying, BaltoSeppalla.
And I don't endorse ignoring flames or attacks, I simply believe that the person who initiated the attack is not worth my time. Anyone who wants me to respond to something they say can say it calmly.
I hate to be the one to break up fights, but I will.
